As Senior IT Engineer, you will work with other Brownells IT engineers and teams to design, implement, maintain, and support IT solutions in order to meet the growing business needs. You will design solutions-based requirements that support Brownells’ strategic objectives, and address/remediate issues as assigned. Your support and engineering efforts will have a breakdown of roughly: 70% Microsoft Server & Desktop Systems, 20% Security and 10% VoIP systems. This position is an internal customer-facing role, and will operate in a hybrid capacity, with the ability to work remotely as well as onsite in Grinnell.

What You Will Do

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Execute on Systems Engineering projects as assigned from end-to-end (design, implementation, support)
  • Direct distribution and installation of software/hardware updates and upgrades
  • Support and maintain Microsoft Active Directory (2019 and 2022)
  • Design, support and maintain systems and services in a hybrid (on premise / public cloud) environment
  • Keep abreast of emerging technology and help determine how it could be leveraged at Brownells
  • Evaluate current capabilities, prepare needs analysis, investigate options, obtain price quotes, make recommendations, purchase, install and maintain enterprise infrastructure
  • Ensure backup, recovery, and security procedures are executed according to industry best practices
  • Display technical leadership role in support of the infrastructure team members
  • Respond to support requests and participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation and off-hours maintenance windows
  • Monitor infrastructure systems against published SLA
  • Document, support, and carry out the hardware and operating system and software maintenance schedule
  • Develop and maintain documentation for other team members to perform their roles

 

What You Will Need

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
  • 4-year degree in related field is preferred, however 3+ years of additional relevant experience may be substituted
  • Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft System Center Suite
  • Demonstrated experience managing large and complex Microsoft environments including Microsoft Teams, O365 and Azure offerings
  • PowerShell or other scripting experience required
  • SQL experience preferred

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Windows Server, Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, and other associated server roles
  • Windows Remote Desktop 2019 environments
  • Third party application installation and management
  • Working knowledge of Cisco, Dell centric Switches, Firewalls, Routing, Security, LAN/WAN, SIP and VPN technologies
  • Exposure to VoIP PBX server systems, phones and peripherals, Linux CentOS preferred
  • Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity and other applicable data replication services
  • All current Windows Desktop Operating Systems and Applications (Office, Adobe, Java, etc.)
  • Desktop peripherals, printers, and other common end user devices (cell phones, tablets, scanners, etc.)

 

Physical Demands

Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
