Reports to: Consumer Lending Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Summary: Individuals in the job are responsible for assisting Tropical Financial Credit Union in the achievement of its purpose of guiding members successfully through the financial marketplace. Additionally, this position is responsible for evaluating and making decisions on consumer loan applications. Decisions must support loan growth and cross-selling goals while simultaneously maintaining loan quality. All decisions must be made within Credit Union policy and comply with Financial and state regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Provide service that meets the Service Standards defined by Tropical Financial Credit Union as measured by the Internal Service Survey; annual goals are established through the Performance Management Process. Analyzes consumer loan applications and makes underwriting decisions. Obtains information necessary to make credit decisions. Makes decisions on all loans up to $100,000 and makes recommendations on all others. Makes counter-offers when appropriate. Communicate decisions to Consumer Lending Consultants within service standard time frames. Responsible for maintaining loan quality in the consumer portfolio. Exercises prudent judgment in following underwriting guidelines. Thoroughly documents all underwriting exceptions. Ensures LOS (Loan Operating System) complies with Credit Union policies and government regulations. Knowledge of Consumer regulatory requirements Truth-In-Lending, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and Fair Credit Reporting Act, OFAC, the Patriots Act, etc. Supports the Credit Union’s loan growth strategy. Identifies sales opportunities for additional loans when reviewing applications. Coach and train lending employees on how to review loan information such as credit reports, tax returns, pay stubs, loan ratios, and collateral information which is necessary to determine creditworthiness. Responsible for Process Improvement by looking for ways to provide leadership with suggestions on how to improve the Member Experience. Become actively engaged in looking and providing insights on ways to improve or enhance the AUS (Automatic Underwriting System) scoring tools. BSA Compliance: every employee is required to uphold the credit union’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures. Specific functions within TFCU will take into consideration the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity that is relevant to the department. In addition to any other assigned training courses, online BSA and OFAC courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and/or Compliance Departments. Education and/or Experience Minimum 2 years experience evaluating consumer loan applications and making underwriting decisions. High school diploma or general education (GED). Ability to exercise lending authority of $100,000 secured, $20,000 unsecured, real estate $50,000, and Member Business Loans $50,000. Working knowledge of lending compliance and legal issues. Must be able to communicate via oral, verbal and electronic. Must have experience with credit scoring “risk-based lending” systems.
