Description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Education Instructor, under general direction of the Children's Coordinator, develops age-appropriate curriculum and provides hands-on academic assistance to children and caregivers of the Fairweather Family Lodge. The Education Instructor will provide a safe, educational, fun, and trauma-informed environment for families of the program to grow together while modeling positive behaviors as well as services to address any other needs.

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research, develop and execute innovative academic curriculum and hands-on tutoring:

  • Utilize 40 Developmental Assets to develop appropriate curriculum that meet the social, cognitive, developmental level, and interest level of the program’s families.
  • Identifies, organizes, and implements regularly scheduled hands-on tutoring sessions with children and caregivers of Fairweather Family Lodge.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding in all basic academic subjects including, but not limited to: math, social studies, science, and English.

Demonstrates ability to work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team in a trauma informed environment to provide exceptional services to the children and families of the program.

  • Document weekly and emergency case notes, update charts as needed. Prepare necessary incident reports.
  • Participate in weekly staffing’s with the Children’s Coordinator to ensure proper services are identified and being fulfilled.
  • Model appropriate interactions with children and appropriate parenting skills for caregivers of the program
  • Advocate for and facilitate clients’ access to community resources; school programs, vocational opportunities or services, recreational activities and relevant mental health services and benefits; assist clients to develop natural resources and make contact with social support networks.

Develop appropriate trust-based relationships with the children and caregivers of the community. Empower community to find their voice and develop a feeling of safety around others, while developing a positive internal sense of self.

Identify and provide appropriate crisis intervention services as necessary; make an immediate assessment to respond according to accepted crisis intervention methods and techniques, and coordinate other services as appropriate.

Demonstrate exceptional customer service, in everything you do, by placing the child, family, Veteran or client first to support our mission to “Empower people to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities.”

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.

EXPERIENCE: 3+ years’ experience working directly with youth, 3+ years in a social service agency, 3+ years in a customer service focused environment. Experience with mental health and/or a homeless population a plus.

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance.

LICENSES: Drivers License with clear record.

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must be available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required to meet business needs. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.

Salary/Wage $20/hr.
