Community First Health Centers currently has a Medical Assistant opportunity available at our Homless Health Care/Mobile Medical Unit. The ideal candidate for this role will be enthusiastic, motivated and a team player. Under the supervision of the Outreach Program Manager, you'll support the medical clinic operations by rooming patients, taking vitals and administering injections. This position will be located out of our New Haven, MI medical facility located at 58144 Gratiot Avenue. You will spend at least 3 full days in the community providing medical assisting at homeless shelters, community kitchens, inpatient and outpatient substance use disorder faciliites, etc,

General responsibilities:

  • Medical Assisting duties conducted in the community in places such as homeless shelters, community kitchens, inpatient and outpatient substance use disorder facilities, etc. (expect to be in the community at least three full days per week)
  • Responsible for driving the Mobile Medical vehicle to events in the community within Macomb and St. Clair Counties
  • Responsible for the full cycle patient flow process including maintaining exam rooms, supplies, waste materials, medical records flow, chart tracking of all records, patient instruction sheets, daily opening and closing procedures, growth grids and immunization tracking in MCIR on a daily basis to insure patient immunizations are up to date
  • Generate Pre-Visit-Planning Reports and participates in daily huddle with care team to aide in the delivery of the best quality of care to the patient
  • Follows clinical standing orders and order sets according to Community First Health Centers Policy and Procedures
  • Perform diagnostic procedures within the scope of the MA role as directed.
  • Autoclave/sterilize and maintain all instruments
  • Conduct daily patient education and distribute materials
  • Practice infection control at all times
  • Communicate with patients to include triage, hospital, insurance companies, home care/nursing homes and/or pharmacy information
  • Assist physician with all procedures or processes as directed
  • Perform basic lab/X-ray procedures as necessary such as basic chest & extremities, venipunctures, heel & finger sticks, cultures including GC, Strep B, Chlamydia and/or Herpes, UA, EKG, etc. as directed
  • Maintain sample medications for inventory and expiration dates
  • Conduct patient referrals and pre-authorizations as directed
  • Assist in orientation of new hires and completion of orientation check list as requested
  • Participate in required continuing education for immunizations and all other clinic processes and procedures
  • Working in the lab or x-ray as needed and directed
  • Successfully complete and maintain all competencies required by Community First Health Centers
  • Successfully complete all documentation in EHR; including all tracking processes for referrals, lab and hospitalization
  • Use MCIR website and EHR on a monthly basis to send MCIR letters (recall/reminders) to patients that are due or overdue for vaccines and/or tests
  • Maintain levels of certification as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant or Nursing program with a C or better G.P.A.
  • Approved certification, registration, and/or license to practice in the state of Michigan
  • Active Chauffer’s License (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire) and ability to drive the Mobile Medical unit to all outreach events
  • Registered Medical Assistant certification must be within six months from date of hire
  • Relevant work experience in a medical center preferred but will train new graduates or
    • Certificate as Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from an accredited College of Nursing
    • Current, unencumbered State of Michigan LPN licensure
    • Must maintain LPN CEU credit requirements for State of MI
  • Minimum of one year experience in an outpatient medical clinic or hospital, community work, or medical office setting
