Description

Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Medical Services Team!  Under the direction of our Medical Director the NP/PA is responsible for assessment and psychiatric treatment of outpatient clients who have a wide range of mental illness.

Essential Functions

  • Provides initial evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing support for individuals with psychiatric conditions.
  • Provide medication monitoring, prescribing medications as indicated, adjusting dosages, and monitoring for response and side effects.
  • Coordinates care with other members of the treatment team as well as outside medical providers.
  • Works with an interdisciplinary team of professionals to administer the best care for those patients needing not only medical therapy but behavior health services as well.
  • Provide education regarding illness and prognosis to assist with clarification of patient and family goals of care and support development of a comprehensive care plan.
  • Complete full and appropriate documentation to support professional billing for services.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge base in provision of psychiatric treatment, including psychopathology, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and psychosocial treatments through reading and other continuing education activities.
  • ensure that individuals receive the clinically appropriate level of care as established by the client’s Individual Service Plan.

Knowledge of:

  • Basic psychopathology of substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders
  • Treatment options spanning biological treatments with sound knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Psychotherapy/counseling and psychosocial intervention.

Skills pertaining to:

  • Psychiatric interviewing and diagnosis
  • Providing psychosocial intervention
  • Advocating for and empowering individuals
  • Work effectively with clients with substance use and a wide range of co-occurring disorders.

Ability to:

  • Maintain the highest integrity in working with controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
  • Use good judgement in crisis situations by implementing safety controls with ability to maintain professional behavior while taking control of the situation.
  • Develop genuine and therapeutic relationships with consumers.
  • Complete required case documentation.

 

 
Position Requirements

Requirements

  • Prescriber must be licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Have graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant Program
  • Must possess an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate
