Description

Summary of Responsibilities: The Part-Time Athletic Training reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer and helps to oversee the athletic training room and activities related to athletic training. This position is expected to work approximately 20 - 25 hours per week with weekday evenings (after 3 pm) and Saturdays required.

 

Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. Performs all aspects of athletic training and activities related to athletic training to include but not limited to:
    1. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of, and compliance with, Geneva College, NCAA Division III and PAC policies and procedures.
    2. Aids in prevention, evaluation, and treatment of all athletic injuries.
    3. Designs and supervises rehabilitation programs.
    4. Assists team physician in conducting pre-participation physical exams, if needed.
    5. Model Christian attitudes and behaviors for student-athletes, students, staff, and fans.
    6. Helps in the distribution, collection, and storage of athletic training equipment and supplies.
    7. Helps in organizing the transportation of student-athletes to doctor, hospital, etc., when needed.
  2. Demonstrates concern for the spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional well-being of each student-athlete.
    1. Actively encourages and supports the Christian faith of team members, which includes encouraging them in spiritual disciplines such as church attendance, prayer, and Bible study. In the case of non-Christian team members, encourages them to consider the claims of Christ on their lives.
    2. Actively encourages and supports team members on the importance of academic success by encouraging or ensuring regular class attendance, monitoring grades, and working to minimize conflicts between athletic and academic responsibilities.
    3. Actively encourages and supports the physical well-being of team members by working with the training staff and other appropriate medical personnel to ensure that the student-athletes are physically ready to participate. This includes looking for signs of eating disorders or the use of illegal and/or unhealthful drugs and supplements and taking appropriate preventive measures and establishing healthy workout and practice schedules.
    4. Actively encourages and supports the psychological and emotional well-being of team members, provides appropriate mentoring and life guidance, and seeks professional assistance when circumstances warrant.
  3. Other:
    1. Actively participates in athletic department functions and meetings, and in college committees as assigned.
    2. Maintains effective working relationships with administrative staff, coaches, student-athletes, and other staff.
    3. Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements - Labor:

  1. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, sitting. Lifts regularly - Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from a four-year accredited program and NATA-BOC certification required. PA license(s) required or ability to obtain. First Aid and CPR certification required. – Degree from a CAATE approved institution.
    2. Skill/Abilities: Valid driver’s license. Willingness to travel overnight and weekends. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a PC and related software.
    3. Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of an evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
