Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. The college seeks to prepare students to serve Christ and the world in all areas of society, including work, family, and the church. Geneva is a founding member of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).

Description

Summary of Responsibilities: Responsible for directing Geneva Colleges Student Activities and Intramural programming through the Center for Student Engagement. This position will facilitate the ongoing work of programming initiatives focused on social connection, belonging, contribution, identity formation, recreation, and discovery and contribute to the overall work of student success within Student Development.

 

Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. Student Activities
    1. Oversee the planning, promoting, scheduling, and assessment of all student activities in the CSE.
      1. Facilitate the design and implementation of small and large student activity events
      2. Assist in the care and maintenance of student activities equipment & facilities.
    2. Facilitate cooperation with other departments regarding Student Activities events and logistics.
      1. Collaborate with Residence Life, Athletics, and other offices to enhance programming for students across campus
    3. Engage students in leadership and programming that facilitates student connection, belonging and institutional pride.
      1. Provide guidance, supervision & leadership to the Student Activities student leadership team.
      2. Disciple students & encourage their development as leaders and followers of Christ.
      3. Meet regularly with the Center for Student Engagement team & be an active member of the Student Development staff
  2. Intramurals
    1. Oversee the development, execution, and assessment of intramural activities.
      1. Develop registration forms, rules, and policies for intramural events
      2. Implement and train staff in risk management processes
      3. Oversee the upkeep, purchasing, and organization of all intramural equipment
      4. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student intramural referees
    2. Collaborate with facilities, athletics, and the fitness center to create recreational and wellness opportunities for the student body.
  3. Welcome Week and Winter Orientation Programming
    1. Assist the Director of the Center for Student Engagement and the Student Development Leadership in the development, communication, scheduling, execution, and assessment of Welcome Week & Winter Orientation programming.
    2. Collaborate with departments to introduce new students to campus resources, people, and systems.
    3. Develop programming that facilitates new student on-boarding, social connection, and institutional pride.
    4. Provide guidance, supervision & leadership to the Welcome Week Student Leadership Team and the Welcome Week Hospitality Team.
  4. Contribute to and participate in the Student Development Department:
    1. Attend student development meetings, professional development opportunities and other department functions as directed by the VP of Student Development.
    2. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  5. Administrative:
    1. Meet regularly with the Director of the Center for Student Engagement
    2. Develop annual goals and assessments for student programming and development
    3. Manage Intramural and Student Activities finances and budget appropriately for campus events.
  6. Supervision:
    1. Supervise student employees to include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, coaching, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
    2. Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.

Job Requirements - Administrative:

  1. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Physical: Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to computers, fax machines, copy machines, modems, and telephones.
  3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: Master’s Degree preferred
    2. Experience: At least two years of experience in student affairs, higher education, program management, leadership development, events, recreation, athletics, or related field.
    3. Skill/Abilities:
      1. Ability to lead, plan, and manage.
      2. Articulate a Christian perspective of student affairs.
      3. Integrate best practices in student affairs from a Biblical perspective.
      4. Work as a member of a team.
      5. Think creatively to serve the diverse needs of college students.
      6. Articulate and assess department learning outcomes.
      7. Work with interdepartmentally (administration, housekeeping, physical plant, food services, technology services, etc.)
      8. Work as a student affair professional.
      9. Work independently and meet deadlines.
      10. Express and live out one’s Christian faith.
      11. Operate a PC and related software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook.
    4. Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
