Description

The Collections & User Services Associate is an integral part of the library staff and works closely with the other staff members, students, and faculty. The Collections & User Services Associate supports the work of the Librarian and the Director of Library Services by assisting in all areas of collection management, including print monograph acquisitions, cataloging, materials processing, and stacks maintenance. The Collections & User Services Associate also co-coordinates library circulation and access services. As a public-facing staff member, the Collections & User Services Associate maintains a visible presence in the library, greeting visitors at the desk, responding to users’ information needs and requests in a friendly and helpful manner, and encouraging positive student behavior in the space. The person in this position will be assigned regularly scheduled shifts during the day and may be asked to work additional hours when the library is open during the day and/or evening, if needed. The position is part-time and for the school year.

 
Position Requirements
  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • Understanding of the basic principles of information organization and retrieval systems
  • Interest in libraries and their role in a community
  • Proficiency with computers and the use of web-based applications
  • Service orientation
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate in a kind but direct manner
  • Patience, open-mindedness, and a love of adolescents with a strong belief that they are all inherently good
  • Willingness to work at a computer for long periods of time
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to neatly process library materials
  • Ability to retrieve and reshelve books located on high and low stacks and move heavy boxes
