Job Summary

The Optometry and Audiology Technician is responsible for assisting the Audiologist and Optometrist with patient care. The tech performs both clerical and customer service duties within the department. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provide exceptional customer service.
  2. Greeting patients professionally both in person and on the phone.
  3. Quickly answering or properly referring patient questions or concerns to appropriate staff.
  4. Optimizing provider schedules and patient satisfaction with efficient scheduling.
  5. Ensuring availability of treatment information by retracing and updating patient records.
  6. Verifying, maintaining, and keeping updated financial records.
  7. Maintaining office inventory and equipment by anticipating supply needs and expediting supply orders based on department needs.
  8. Gather accurate and complete case history and statement of patient’s primary and secondary concerns.
  9. Perform scheduled continued care package visits for patients needing hearing aid cleaning.
  10. Assist patients with basic hearing aid questions and functionality.
  11. Assist audiologist as needed with difficult hearing tests.
  12. Sanitize audiology probes and other equipment.
  13. Assist in benefit verification, authorization, ordering, tracking and charging of hearing aids.
  14. Assist with hearing aid warranties and returns.
  15. Perform pretesting skills: checking visual acuities, pupils, eye teaming, eye movements, color vision and stereo vision as needed for staff coverage.
  16. Proficiency with pretesting equipment: lensometry, autorefraction, corneal topography, intra-ocular pressure and fundus photography as needed for staff coverage.
  17. Proficiency with special testing equipment: pachymeter, visual field analyzer, ocular coherence tomographer as needed for coverage.
  18. Communicate necessary details of patient’s case to providers.
  19. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products.
  20. Prepare work order for lab ensuring all pertinent information is listed.
  21. Inspect final product for accuracy.
  22. Educate patient on how best to care for their products.
  23. Price, stock and straighten merchandise.
  24. Performs multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy and thoroughness despite time pressures and customer volume.
  25. Takes pride in the appearance of the store and shows initiative in keeping the lab and stock room clean, organized and safe.
  26. Assist with staff coverage as needed based on patient needs.
  27. Maintain strictest confidentiality at all times
  28. Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Demonstrated one (1) year of excellent customer service
  3. Interpersonal skills to interact positively with patients who may be upset or stressed
  4. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
  5. Proficient in Microsoft programs
  6. Ability to be flexible with schedule changes
  7. Ability to multi-task while maintaining high level of organization and attention to detail
  8. Excellent telephone, customer service and communication skills
  9. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based setting as an effective team player
  10. Regular and dependable attendance
  11. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check
  12. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
  13. Must submit proof of COVID vaccination

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of history, culture, and health needs of American Indian/Alaska Native communities preferred
  2. Prior experience in a clinical medical office setting
