Description

Responsible for quality Early Childhood Education service delivery in a multi-cultural program.  Responsible for recruitment, retention, and supervision of a diverse staff.  The position is also responsible for budget development and management, maintenance of a safe, sanitary environment, DHS rule 3 licensing and NAEYC accreditation. Help promote and foster relationships with partners and the community.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervision of Staff:

  • Interview, hire, orient and provide overall supervision for qualified diverse staff including scheduling and yearly performance evaluations.
  • Directly supervise Assistant director, Specialists and Lead Teachers.
  • Coach Lead Teachers on supervision of Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Associate Teachers and Teacher Aides.
  • Recruit, hire, train and coach direct reports. Work with Human Resources to anticipate current and future staffing needs. 
  • Practice conflict resolution that models respect for differences, is non-threatening, calm, and de-escalating in style. Work with Human Resources to effectively manage employee relations issues.
  • Practice ongoing performance management of employees.
  • Keep classrooms adequately staffed while meeting Licensing and NAEYC requirements.

 Ensure smooth operation of ECE Center as described below:

  • Oversee maintenance of enrollment, family communication and family involvement. This includes but is not limited to: providing tours, facilitating authorizations and effectively working with the enrollment and nutrition manager to meet annual utilization goals.
  • Supervise the development and implementation of developmentally appropriate ant-bias multi-cultural curriculum for each classroom by following the YWCA’s ELM Curriculum.
  • Foster classroom environments that are conducive to curriculum objectives.
  • Oversee the assessment and provisions made for special needs services with identified children.
  • Oversee successful family communication, consultation, support and involvement.
  • Oversee maintenance and physical condition of center.

Handle overall site needs and all record keeping as described below:

  • Maintain health, safety, licensing and USDA grants and NAEYC accreditation standards and records.
  • Develop, implement and monitor center budgets.
  • Work with ECE financial team to ensure family authorizations are current and parent accounts are current.
  • Participate on center, building and agency teams.
  • Understand and interpret the YWCA mission to children, staff and families.
  • Stay current and enforce YWCA organizational and departmental policies and procedures consistently and fairly.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field or equivalent educational experience (Bachelor's Degree in an unrelated field and at least 60 credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development) with at least 9 credits in administration, leadership, or management or a director's Credential.
  • Excellent Human Relations skills. 
  • Must have excellent communication skills: Written: to write reports, business correspondence, and newsletter articles; Verbal: to effectively communicate persuasive sales presentation to individuals and groups.
  • Excellent organizational and project coordination skills. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as government funding regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to protect confidential information. 
  • Strong customer focus. 
  • Ability to work in teams and in an individual setting. 
  • Demonstrated cultural competency skills. 
  • Strong problem-solving ability, including the ability to productively resolve conflict.
  • Must be able to deal with ambiguity and have excellent management skills.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of two years experience as a supervisor.
  • Minimum of two years experience as an Early Childhood Education classroom teacher. 
  • Minimum of one year experience working with a diverse population.

Compensation: $58,000 to $63,000
