Instructor, BIS Welding and Safety Technical Trainer 

Description

Provide technical research and provide training to employees of area companies to prepare the individuals to be successful and assist client companies in incorporating advancing technologies into their workplace.

Essential Functions

  1. Design customized continuing education products and facilitate employer-sponsored training courses related to the operation and maintenance functions for client companies in assigned embedded industry focus area(s).
  2. Recommend process improvements and develop custom processes for client companies.
  3. Develop project proposals for clients that outline recommended activities and training solutions for client-specific concerns related to design or improved operations.
  4. Conduct research for current and needed training products, evaluate and propose as appropriate new projects/programs.
  5. Maintain complete, accurate and current documentation of client projects and supportive activities.
  6. Ensure all process and operational recommendations meet District quality and client standards.
  7. Participate continuously in professional development activities related to assigned embedded industry focus area(s) to assure that technical and industry knowledge remains current with changes, improvements and enhancements in automated systems and related fields.
  8. Recruit, select, recommend for hire, on-board, direct and evaluate adjunct employees including instructors and consultants that participate in providing client solutions to assure effective use of the resource, and quality of service to the client organization.
  9. Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making decisions regarding the provision of services to internal and external customers and in day-to-day operations of the department. Interpret and implement policies in a manner consistent with the interests of the District. Provide advice and consultation to executive management as requested. Investigate and resolve issues as needed, represent the department and District in a professional manner to all.
 
Position Requirements
  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial safety or production welding operations. Must have production experience in welding fabrication to include but not limited to SMAW, MIG, and TIG welding procedures, experience in development of welding process specifications to meet operational requirements, knowledge of process analysis and continuous improvement methodology.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience with the development of policies, procedures and training related to occupational health and safety and environmental regulations
  • Experience with OSHA, EPA and ADA regulations, and one year experience in a lead role is also required.
  • Experience in weld testing including CWI preparation, quality management systems such as Lean, and general industrial safety is preferred.
  • Currently possess or have the ability to obtain within one year, current certifications to deliver American Heart Association or Red Cross approved CPR, OSHA Outreach General Industry, OSHA General Construction and other safety topics is required.
  • Understand Adult learning principles specific to designing, developing and delivery of various course subjects.
  • Knowledge of current state and federal regulations related to safety, health, fire protection and the environment.
  • Bilingual is a plus

Shift Days  
Education Bachelors degree or, high school diploma with equivalent experience in welding, safety, engineering, manufacturing, construction or a related field. Currently possess or have the ability to obtain within one year, current certifications to deliver American Heart Association or Red Cross approved CPR, OSHA Outreach General Industry, OSHA General Construction and other safety topics is required.  
Salary Schedule SPMS  
Hiring Range Salary dependent on education and experience, plus additional $6,900 annual compensation for salary-in-lieu of dependent benefit coverage.
