Desktop Support Technician

LOCATION: Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Facilities

SUPERVISED BY:

POSITION STATUS: Full-Time with Benefits

SALARY LEVEL: $17/HR

WORK SCHEDULE: 40 Hour Work Week

DESCRIPTION

The Desktop Technician's role is to provide a single point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance within the organization's desktop computing environment. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading all PC hardware and equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via email) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance where required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions

  • Support and maintain 400 plus mixed devices consisting of PC's, printers, desk/mobile phones, and other peripherals spread across various Tribe facilities in the Port Angeles area.
  • Active Directory user and computer account management, including password resets, security membership, creation, and disabling.
  • Troubleshoot and make account changes for the ShoreTel campus phone system.
  • Update and maintain Exchange email distribution groups.
  • Record and track IT service requests submitted via phone, text, and email from end users in ticket tracking software. Escalate tickets as needed to specific team members.
  • Troubleshoot and research software and hardware issues impacting the desktop environment equipment and users.
  • Monitor endpoint protection technologies, like Malware/virus/firewall/encryption, and respond to any alerts.
  • Ensure all endpoints are secured and updated via patch management tools and Windows updates.
  • Good understanding of current desktop operating systems (Windows 7/10), Microsoft Office applications (Word/Excel/Outlook), and desktop/laptop hardware configuration.
  • Assist and train Tribal staff on proper use of equipment and software.
  • Cross train with the Desktop Support Specialist on how the various systems work related to OS imaging, endpoint protection, application deployment, and patch deployment.
  • Deploy new desktop, laptop, tablet, and other required hardware upgrades. Migrate user files and settings between machines as needed.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory and assignment of tribal assets.
  • Work closely in a team environment to help provide the best support and uptime possible for all tribal IT services.
  • Enforce employee policies and procedures related to IT security and proper equipment usage.
  • Enforce Compliance related policies and procedures for those individuals working under HIPAA, CIJIS, and Casino restrictions.
  • Present a courteous professional image as a representative of the IT department.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with co-workers, and every level of management.
  • Other duties as assigned relevant to job.
 
Position Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education and Certification

  • Two year degree in computer related field or IT technical college.
  • OR, minimum GED/high school diploma and 2 of years IT support experience in a Microsoft based networked environment of a small to medium sized organization
  • Must have excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including computer, phone, fax, and photocopier
  • Must have valid Washington State Driver’s license.
  • All applicants must have the ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and UA drug screening.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required by this position

  • Solid understanding of basic connectivity issues in a TCP/IP networked environment and how it works with Active Directory.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic desktop and laptop hardware issues.
  • Able to install, configure and troubleshoot Windows OS, MS Office, and other common third party applications like Java, Adobe, etc..
  • Ability to work independently and as a team, and make sound decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to grow technically and take on new job roles/titles as the Tribe’s IT infrastructure grows.
  • Strong customer-service orientation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Stamina to work unspecified hours per week primarily in an office setting. Some nights and weekends as needed for specific project work or major outage resolution.
  • Ability to reach, squat, and crawl related to troubleshooting and deployment of computer desktop equipment.
  • Walking and standing; sitting down for long period of time.
  • Able to lift and carry loads up to approximately 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to comply with the LOWER KLALLAM TRIBE policies and procedures, including the Drug Free Workplace.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to model the expectations of confidentiality.
