Wage: $23.10 - $27.72

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Provide counseling/client management services for individuals and groups utilizing the Genesis Process and Biblical Counseling/Mental Health Counseling modalities. Facilitate or teach Recovery Program process groups and assigned program classes. If Master’s level, licensed counselor, supervise counseling interns.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Result Area #1: COUNSELING SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS

  1. Will have an assigned caseload of up to 12 men providing weekly one-on-one counseling/case management utilizing the Genesis Process.
  2. Provides trauma therapy as needed or assists in arranging outside counseling to meet the trauma needs of the resident.
  3. Each client will have an individualized Recovery Plan, including specific goals and benchmarks that measures success towards Life Recovery; addressing addiction recovery, relapse prevention skills, physical, emotional, behavioral conditions, childhood trauma, vocational, legal, spiritual issues, and a plan to develop relationships outside of UGM that support recovery.
  4. Recovery plans will be a collaborative process, involving the client and when appropriate, other professionals (Probation Officer, etc.)
  5. Clients written goals in their recovery plans are monitored and assessed regularly to evaluate and encourage ongoing growth/progress.
  6. Attend scheduled treatment team meetings, presenting & reviewing resident caseload concerns, status reports, pass needs, and updates.
  7. Biblical truth is fully-integrated into the recovery process.
  8. Consistently maintains confidentiality in accordance with established Program Guidelines and HIPAA.
  9. Supports our Genesis Process guidelines in the care of all residents, utilizing Genesis Process tools in counseling and classes.
  10. Complete class critiques at the end of each phase and turn in to Program Director.

Key Result Area #2: CLIENT MANAGEMENT

  1. Participates in accountability and focus meetings when necessary; staff and residents are coordinated for caseload.
  2. Assists in leading community meetings as assigned and actively participates in the self -evaluation process.
  3. Individualized client benchmarks are clearly identified and progress evaluated by mid-semester and at the end of each semester before a client is advanced to the next phase.
  4. Regularly informs program team of changes in resident’s schedule, passes, work therapy, etc.
  5. Client Files are accurate and up to date.
  6. Department Statistics are maintained on a monthly basis.
  7. Outside service providers are engaged in appropriate ways in the client’s recovery plan.
  8. Regularly collaborates with case manager, VocEd staff, shelter staff, Work Therapy team, class instructors, Aftercare, etc..
  9. Leads & supervises multilevel care of resident – case manager, vocational education, and work therapy.
  10. Ensures ongoing accountability in regards to resident’s money management.

Key Result Area #3: LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

  1. If Master’s level, licensed counselor, supervise counseling interns.
  2. UGM’s Core Values and their indicators are personally applied and observed.
  3. LIFE Recovery Counselor is collaborating with Vocational Advancement and Aftercare to promote successful transition and continued recovery.
  4. Program Director is aware of all critical activities and concerns.
  5. Participates in the Outcome Based Management Process, e.g. SWOT’s, SMART goals, One-on-one’s.
  6. SMART goals are being identified and achieved that are effective in the life transformation of program men.
  7. Regular team building and planning meetings are attended to discuss the effectiveness of collaboration and programming.
  8. Collaborates, assists, and participates in program recreational activities.

 

Key Result Area #4: VOLUNTEERS

 

  1. Providing leadership and support for volunteers serving in the department, as assigned.
  2. Coordinates with and supports case managers on matters pertaining to individual clients financial, legal, and recovery goals or needs.

 

 

Key Result Area #4: TEAMWORK/COMMUNICATION

  1. Healthy, affirming communication occurs with other staff and residents frequently.
  2. Conflicts will be resolved using the Peace Maker/Genesis Conflict Resolution tools/skills.
  3. Participates in holding others and self-accountable and participates in self-evaluation process.
  4. Comes to meetings prepared.
  5. Other assigned duties are satisfactorily completed.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Committed Christian, able and willing to model servant-leadership and interested in being part of a ministry for the poor, homeless, drug addicted and mentally ill. Grounded in the Christian faith as a mature, active member of the body of Christ. In accordance with Union Gospel Mission Statement of Purpose, Statement of Vision and Statement of Faith.
  2. Strong Interpersonal skills - exercise compassion and discernment while modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ.
  3. As a unified team member, willing to honor the leadership, chain of command, and standards and ministry objectives of Union Gospel Mission.
  4. Follows UGM policy regarding addressing and resolving conflict amongst team members, volunteers, & residents.
  5. Know and able to communicate and embrace UGM’s cultural Core Values and their indicators. The Core Values are applied and observed
  6. Computer literate (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook); able to complete documents, reports and accurately record information. Willing to continue education as needed or required.
  7. Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and instructional.
  8. Must have a teachable spirit and the ability manage multiple emotional and task related variables, listen, and make sound decisions in alignment with UGM’s purpose.
  9. Minimum five years of sobriety, if in recovery.
  10. Insightful, trustworthy, honest, reliable, model appropriate boundaries, maintains confidentiality and demonstrates strong work ethic.
  11. Valid Washington driver’s license– required.
  12. CPR/First Aid certification – required.
  13. Yearly TB clearance – required.
  14. Criminal background check clearance – required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:

Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100%

  1. Work is primarily indoors and may require climbing two flights of stairs, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and going from building to building - Continuously.
  2. Requires working with a diverse population, many of whom struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental illness – continuously.
  3. Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about the facilities on a regular and ongoing basis – frequently.
  4. Requires the ability to hear, see, and speak clearly – continuously.
  5. Requires participation in program recreation outings and activities – occasionally.

 

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS USED:

  1. Computer (Word, Excel, Database, Power Point, Outlook, Internet), Copier/printer, Phone, Fax.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. Four+ year’s prior counseling experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience - required.
  2. Master’s Level Licensed Counselor – preferred.
  3. Experience with chemical dependency and addiction recovery counseling - preferred.
  4. Trauma therapy experience - preferred.
