Assistant Executive Director

Job Summary:

Assistant to the Executive Director, tasked with managing the daily operations of CCE’s client, the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (“NCBLCMHC” or the “Board”).

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Serves as assistant to the executive director of the NCBLCMHC and provides direct professional executive services on behalf of the Board to enforce the North Carolina’s Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors Act, N.C. Gen. Stat. §90-329, et seq.

2. Writes and edits emails, drafts agendas for meetings, and prepares communications on the executive director’s behalf.

3. Confers with Executive Director, Vice President of CCE, NCBLCMHC Executive Board members, Board attorney, Board investigators, organization officials, and/or staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, and resolve problems.

4. Manages support personnel for the NCBLCMHC in the absence of the executive director.

5. Supports the Executive Director in the evaluation of the performance of NCBLCMHC staff in meeting objectives or to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.

6. Assists with Board and committee meetings to establish and maintain various licensing efforts and encourages Board and committees to keep within established time frames, working with staff members as necessary to incorporate best practices into service development and provision.

7. Knowledgeable of policies and processes of similar Boards as needed to establish and refine best practices.

8. Plans and implements meetings and conferences, as needed.

9. Applies original thinking in the approach to applicant and licensee database development, maintenance, and associated issues; ensures that the Board’s website contains accurate and up-to-date information.

10. Maintains an up-to-date database of consumer/client complaints related to counseling practices in North Carolina; performs the tasks in the disciplinary process in a timely manner as determined by the Board or the Ethics Committee Chair.

11. Assists Executive Director to ensure consumer complaints are responded to appropriately and in accordance with the Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors Act of North Carolina.

12. Provides monthly status updates to the Executive Director regarding Board operations.

13. Prepares information to the Executive Director, Vice President of CCE, Board, and legislators regarding legislation affecting the field of regulation and counselors.

14. Applies original thinking in the approach to job responsibilities and to improve licensure and other processes, methods, or service for the Board.

15. Takes minutes during the Board meetings and its committees’ meetings and submits them to the Executive Director for review.

16. Other duties as assigned by the Board, its committees, or the Executive Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable):

  • Manages support personnel for the NCBLCMHC in Executive Director’s absence.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Suite, especially Excel and Power Point.
  • Manages difficult client and customer situations, responds promptly to customer needs, solicits customer feedback to improve service, responds to requests for service and assistance, and meets commitments.
  • Responds to changes in the work environment with a positive attitude, manages competing demands, and is capable of dealing with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, 2 years of related experience and/or training preferred

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Regularly walking back and forth between and within the buildings while carrying mail/faxes. This will include outdoor exposure between buildings.
  • Regularly climbing stairs.
  • Regularly stooping, bending, and balancing.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Able to work from home or the office as needed.
