Description

Position Purpose: Responsible for accurate billing and collection of insurance and self-pay accounts. Responsible for the resolution of patient inquires pertaining to billing and insurance filing processes. Will work with patients and third party payors to obtain payment on delinquent accounts according to legal and proper collection techniques as well as maintain A/R days outstanding within established HPN guidelines. Assigns uncollectable accounts to a collection agency.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
  • Skill in operating a computer, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Skill in mathematical computations to determine account balances accurately.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to deal courteously and clearly with patients and third party payors.

Essential Functions:

The following list describes the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here.

  • Responsible for the resolution of all patient inquiries pertaining to the billing and insurance filing process.
  • Acts as a liaison between HPN central billing and physician offices, ensuring proper communication both to and from the medical office.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work relationship with all office personnel. Provides help and support to physician offices as necessary.
  • Works with patient and/or insurance carrier to obtain payment on delinquent accounts.
  • Works with other areas of the billing services to facilitate communications necessary to reduce outstanding receivables.
  • Posting of all patient and insurance payments as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining collection percentage within HPN guidelines.
  • Make daily deposits.
  • Responsible for assisting in the training of new employees.
  • Keep current by attending seminars/conferences as approved by Billing Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Required Experience: One (1) year experience in physician’s office, insurance company or collection agency or training at an educational institution preferred to include training in medical practice software, ICD, CPT and HCPCS coding and proper insurance filing.

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Required License: None required.
