Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. Description

Summary of Responsibilities: As a member of the Geneva College Security Department, the Officer is expected to perform a full range of security duties. The duties include protecting against fire, theft and criminal activity. It also includes protecting and assisting the general campus population.

 

Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. General Duties:
    1. Continuous roving patrols by the security vehicle and by foot of College properties.
    2. Respond to calls of service.
    3. Respond to all alarm calls and make proper notification.
    4. Respond to all medical emergencies and render aid when applicable.
    5. Enforce Geneva College parking policies.
    6. Conduct building checks both required and unspecified.
    7. Unlock and lock buildings as required.
    8. Check for any hazards or areas of safety concern.
    9. Complete a daily Security Department report.
  2. Supervision:
    1. Supervise student employees to include training, planning, assigning and directing work, coaching, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    2. Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.

Job Requirements - Labor:

  1. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: (Place each of the following words into one of the four repetition levels below: walking, climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, sitting, fingering. Able to lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally.
  3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: High School diploma or equivalent
    2. Skill/Abilities: Ability to communicate both orally and in writing for the purpose of public interaction and report writing.
    3. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must be able to work all shifts -i.e. 8a-4p, 4p-12a, and 12a-8a. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
    4. Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability status.
    5. Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of an evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Education/Certification: Some college education a plus
    2. Experience: Security work in an educational setting
