Description

Alternative Response Service Specialist needed for full-time position in Montgomery County.

The ARS Specialist provides emergency short-term case management to families referred for housing assistance from the Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth Services. ARS Specialist oversees the financial stipend to each family.

Essential Job Functions:

Major highlights of the position requirements are noted below. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required.

  • Able to engage families and deliver meaningful, culturally competent in-home services.
  • Respond to program referrals within 48 hours of referral, ensure program staff coverage, and update supervisor if unavailable for program coverage.
  • Engage family in service planning, prioritizing budget needs, and family stipend purchase decisions.
  • Perform case management duties by linking families with community resources, and advocating for the family with utility companies, landlords, and household items/furniture stores where supplies are purchased.
  • Teaching families self-advocacy skills.
  • Ability to network for utilization of local community assets and resources.
  • Establish positive working relationships with professionals in community agencies and schools; work collaboratively with family members and professionals to assist families in meeting their objectives.
  • Work with Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth as a partner in program design and delivery.
  • Maintain detailed documentation regarding case notes, required agency documentation, and family stipend requests and spending.
  • Complete and submit program reports and outcome data within required time frames.
  • Participate in ongoing supervision, staff meetings, training, and development.
  • Collaborate with community agencies and families through committee participation as indicated by Assistant Director Family and Community Services.
  • Supervise interns to provide additional support to the ARS program.
 
Position Requirements

BSW and at least three years of experience working with children and families preferably in the child welfare system. Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle.
