JOB SUMMARY: The Patient Care Attendant provides direct one-to-one observation and patient care of patients at high risk of injury under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). Duties and responsibilities are performed in a manner adhering to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shifts for the position are 12 hours in duration, and the potential associate must be able to work the full shift. The associate must maintain good physical and emotional well-being.
  • The associate must possess genuine interest in caring for patients in the acute care environment.
  • Personal qualities to include are kindness, sympathy, understanding, respect, good judgment, integrity, loyalty, a sense of humor, and the ability to relate effectively with patients, families, and coworkers.

EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:

  • The associate must can deliver adequate care/service to patients and family members. It is a requirement that the associate maintain the patient’s integrity by keeping them clean at all times.
  • The associate must comply with the direction of the RN at all times.
  • All documentation must be done per nursing policy and procedures at all times.
  • The associate needs to be willing to volunteer extra help in addition to the duties documented in this document.
  • It is essential to not waste linens or supplies at all times.
  • The associate must report all pertinent patient information to the RN or charge RN immediately.
  • The associate must utilize appropriate chain of command to verbalize problems/concerns or equipment/supply needs.
  • The associate must maintain patient confidentiality by not discussing patient condition or information outside the patient care area.
  • Keeping up on memos and communication is pertinent to obtain information required for exceptional job performance.
  • Patient care practices must remain consistent with safety principles, OSHA guidelines and infection control principles.
  • Ensuring patient safety at all times by the use of bed checks when indicated, as well as moving/transferring, and ambulating patients per protocol.
  • The associate must make sure to not endanger the patient or other staff members by placing equipment cords in high traffic areas.
  • The use of communication is imperative when reporting non-functioning or unsafe equipment to the appropriate personnel.
  • The associate must offer their assistance to any family member or visitor to maintain great customer satisfaction.
  • Being able to treat all staff throughout the hospital with respect is required.
  • The associate must maintain good hygiene and appearance at all times to promote HRH to patients and visitors.
  • Honors patients’ right to privacy, respect and dignity; and addresses patient by name at all times.
  • Must maintain the unit in a clean, uncluttered manner by putting away supplies, cleaning and disposing of soiled equipment, maintaining order and cleanliness of support areas at all times.
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED. Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
