SUMMARY

This position helps cultivate stronger relationships with donors, potential donors, and the community. This position coordinates and oversees the creative, logistical, and fundraising success of the zoo’s philanthropic events including, but not limited to, the All for Animals Walk and donor stewardship events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee, plan, and coordinate all aspects of the All For Animals Walk, the zoo’s peer-to-peer fundraising event. Collaborate with Events team on logistics and production needs.
  • Oversee, plan, and coordinate aspects of the Development department’s stewardship and cultivation event series.
  • Drive enthusiasm and events for fundraising success by collaborating with colleagues, co-chairs, volunteers, and stakeholders involved. Create talking points to include messaging, remarks, and collateral copy.
  • Manage event collateral including save-the date, invitation, website, other related items, marketing event to target audiences, and determining storytelling opportunities in collaboration with the Engagement team.
  • Create sponsor impact reports in in collaboration with other staff.
  • Update team as to progress to goal and provide necessary tools for them to act as liaison to the zoo’s executive leadership; organize and facilitate meetings and projects as needed.
  • Oversee, plan, and coordinate vendor relations and meetings.
  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of the development department’s stewardship and cultivation event planning with other team members.
  • Provide staff and volunteers with timelines for activity, regular status reports, registration reports, and administrative and creative support.
  • Manage event follow-up, including acknowledgements and event survey.
  • Nurture a culture of philanthropy among staff and trustees and ensure that building donor relationships enters into all advancement decisions.
  • Collaborate with Data Services to pull invite and RSVP lists, Raiser’s Edge support, background research, and donation tracking needs.
  • Cultivate and secure volunteers for pre, night of, and post Jungle Party auction activities in collaboration with the Volunteer and Events teams. In Partnership with the Volunteer & Events teams, and vendors manage volunteer training and troubleshooting during the event.
  • Plan and oversee all pre and post Jungle Party auction volunteer meetings and events.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to manage volunteers during the production week of the Jungle Party auction and other events as necessary.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to existing and potential donors; develop knowledge of the zoo’s donors over time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, and two (2) or more years of experience and/or training; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in fundraising event planning or catering; or equivalent project management experience.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Proficient and experienced in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. Ability to work with customized databases and technology and to conduct internet research.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and organizational communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team within diverse teams and environments, while treating everyone with respect.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff, interns, volunteers, academics, and professional conservationists.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with audiences of different backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to listen patiently and attentively, ability to express self clearly and effectively, and ability to adapt communication based on audience and purpose with inclusivity.
  • Ability to employee best practices associate with position, with an approach to accuracy, while displaying an ongoing commitment to learning and self-improvement.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively present information to staff, volunteers, public groups, donors, and others.

  • Ability to work a non-standard/flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Raiser’s Edge, Greater Giving, and/or auction databases/mobile bidding experience.
  • Experience working with or directing volunteers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment and/or outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be loud to very loud during concerts and Jungle Party season.

PAY: $61,000-64,000/annually plus benefits

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid WA driver's license with a safe driving history. A criminal background check, and driving record review will be required of the selected applicant.

  • As of November 24, 2021, employees working on or accessing zoo grounds are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If hired, you will be required to submit proof of vaccination by your first day of employment.
