Summary of Responsibilities: The men’s and women’s golf head coach provides overall direction of the program which competes in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) and NCAA Division III. The primary responsibility for the head coach is to develop a consistently competitive program through the instruction of student-athletes during practice sessions, pre-game preparation, and athletic contests. In addition to instructing student-athletes in how to perform their sport, they will also provide instruction on physical health, team concepts and safety. Another primary responsibility for the head coach is the recruitment and retention of a full roster of student-athletes set at an appropriate number as determined by the coach and the Director of Athletics. The coach also assists admissions in recruiting prospective students who express interest in participating in the program.


Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

The essential responsibility of the men’s and women’s golf head coach is to coach (teach) student athletes in their sport. They are charged to help each individual student-athlete to reach their full-potential in the athletic arena through instruction of physical health, team concepts and safety.

  1. Coaches all aspects of the assigned sport to include but not limited to:
    1. Model Christian attitudes and behaviors for student-athletes, students, staff, and fans.
    2. Demonstrates concern for the spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional well-being of each team member.
      1. Actively encourages and supports the Christian faith of team members, which includes encouraging and instructing them in spiritual disciplines such as church attendance, prayer, and Bible study. In the case of non-Christian team members, actively encourages them to consider the claims of Christ on their lives.
      2. Actively encourage, support, and educate team members on the importance of academic by encouraging or ensuring regular class attendance, monitoring grades, and working to minimize conflicts between athletic and academic responsibilities.
      3. Actively encourage, support, and educate team members on the importance of their physical well-being by working with the training staff and other appropriate medical personnel to assure that the student-athletes are physically ready to participate, which includes looking for signs of eating disorders or the use of illegal and/or unhealthful drugs and supplements and taking appropriate preventive measures and establishing healthy workout and practice schedules.
    3. Conducts practices to instruct student-athletes in game strategies and techniques of the sport.
    4. Instruct players on proper conditioning and safe practice/ play techniques to avoid injuries.
    5. Assess players’ skills during practices and competitions and provide correction and instruction to improve player’s skills and overall performance.
    6. Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
    7. Maintains up-do-date knowledge of, and compliance with, Geneva College, NCAA Division III, and PAC rules and regulations.
    8. Schedules pre-season and in-season contests as well as organizing practices and one play day during the non-traditional season in consultation with the Director of Athletics.
    9. Organizes and conducts practices and conditioning sessions within the rules of NCAA Division III.
    10. Actively encourage, support, and educate team members on psychological and emotional well-being by providing appropriate mentoring and life guidance and seeking professional assistance when circumstances warrant. Coordinates the distribution, collection, and storage of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies (during the season and at its conclusion) and the collection of fees for lost equipment and uniforms by student-athletes.
    11. Works with the Director of Athletics and Connoquenessing Country Club to organize practices and competitions.
    12. Fields competitive teams when playing other Division III colleges and universities. This is to be assessed over a three-to-five-year time span with the team being in contention for conference championships on a periodic basis.
  2. Recruitment:
    1. Recruit student-athletes in line with college policy, NCAA Division III, and PAC regulations. Works closely with the admissions department to this end. The head coach has a specific recruiting target for new freshmen as well as a target roster size.
    2. In consultation with the faculty athletic representative, Director of Athletics, and the Registrar’s Office, assures that student-athletes are eligible to participate in athletics according to college policy, and NCAA regulations.
    3. Demonstrates knowledge of Slate recruiting software and works directly with admissions counselors on communications to prospective student-athletes.
  3. Financial Management:
    1. Adheres to budget guidelines and keeps records and writes reports.
    2. Works with the Director of Athletics, the College’s purchasing office, physical plant, and other offices as appropriate to purchase necessary sport-specific athletic equipment and supplies.
    3. Ensures safe and cost-effective travel to and from contests.
    4. Directs the process of raising additional funds for men’s and women’s golf with approval of the Director of Athletics.
  4. Other:
    1. Actively participates in athletic department functions and meetings, and in college committees as assigned.
    2. Maintains effective working relationships with administrative staff, coaches, student-athletes, and other staff.
    3. Performs related duties as assigned.
    4. Organize, promote, manage, and execute youth and/or recruit camps during the school year or summer months.

Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, sitting, fingering. Lifts regularly - Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.



  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field
    2. Experience: Two years coaching at high school (head coach) and/or two years coaching at collegiate level.
    3. Skill/Abilities: Valid Driver’s license. A willingness to travel, including overnight and weekends. The ability to work evenings and weekends. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a PC and related software.
    4. Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of an evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Education/Certification: Master’s or equivalent in the field of Physical Education
    2. Experience: Three to five years coaching at the collegiate level
