SUMMARY

The quality in-process inspector is a supporting role to the quality department and process engineering team

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Follows all ISO 9001 and IATF16949 Procedures and Work Instructions in the performance of the following duties:

  • Monitor in-process production and perform final inspection on finished product to ensure products meet customer specifications through visual and dimensional inspections, recording results in PLEX and advising appropriate personnel when out of tolerance conditions are found
  • Identify, segregate and tag in-process nonconforming material to be dispositioned by the Material Review Board (MRB)
  • Follow and support company ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 policies, procedures, and work instructions
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Assist with data collection for capability and GR&R studies
  • Be a positive presence on the production floor to encourage, motivate and promote active involvement in suggestions towards improving processes and procedures and communicating these suggestions to the quality department and management team
  • Perform layered process audits according to schedule to verify effectiveness of the Quality Management System
  • Assist with internal audits when requested
  • Identify, segregate and tag in-process nonconforming material to be dispositioned by MRB
  • Verify any sorted or reworked product as a result of nonconformance disposition
  • Report all issues with faulty measurement equipment to the quality technician
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships across the organization

 

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS NECESSARY

  • Use of Calipers, Micrometers, and Various Other Hand Gages
  • Experience with CMM and Vision Systems (preferred but not necessary)
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Blueprint Reading
  • GD&T (preferred)
  • Plex ERP System (preferred but not necessary)
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 Standards
  • SPC (preferred but not necessary)
  • Multitasking
  • Strong Communication Skills (Verbal and Written)
  • Teamwork
  • Proactive Mentality

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus, six months experience in floor inspection or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with using an automated CMM and/or vision system is a plus. Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel. Previous experience with blueprint reading and GD&T is a plus. Must have the ability to work in a team environment, as well as multi-task.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic mathematical skills are required. Ability to apply concepts such as decimals, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the office area and loud in the manufacturing area. Appropriate PPE must be worn where required.
