Job Summary:

The Coding Systems Administrator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all applications utilized in the Medical Coding Services, including user setup, new site setup, workflow tool development and deployment and troubleshooting

Essential Functions: In addition to working as prescribed in our Performance Factors specific responsibilities of this role include:

  • Building new tools and workflows within the Quickbase application
  • Performing maintenance on existing Quickbase products
  • Understanding the overall systems architecture of each software tool utilized by the Medical Coding team, including but not limited to: Big Brother, Quickbase, Helix/Tempus..
  • Building new users in the respective systems
  • Troubleshooting systems issues that may arise.
  • Working directly with Coding Managers and team members as well as the Development Team to develop new production applications and tools, as well as improving current tools and processes.
  • Communicating effectively the design needs and ideas between the users and the development team to make systems enhancement and development new systems.
  • Actively participate and lead the project planning related to systems integration, testing and build.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of coding processes and workflows, including coding methodology, data analytics and compliance.
  • Build and/or assist in the design and maintenance of current and future data analytics needs for Medical Coding Services and Clients.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Maintain compliance with all Federal and State Laws and Regulations pertaining to the function of coding
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Participate in Medical Coding Services staffing meetings to identify opportunities for systems utilization and to provide updates on active development projects.


Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Experience/Certification Requirements

  • Design and Build experience utilizing open source architecture software (preferably Quickbase)
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to follow through on issues to resolution.
  • Must be able to act both independently and as a team member.
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Thorough understanding of medical coding and HIM workflow
  • Ability to understand complex workflows and translate that into efficient tools and applications to support the workflow.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a medical coding or HIM department environment as well as workflow understanding.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change
  • Flexible, persuasive and tactful
  • Demonstrated ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, line managers and operational personnel
  • Well-developed presentation skills and ability to develop and deliver best practice presentations to clients and professional organizations and conferences.
  • Understanding of programming and application development strongly preferred.
