Infection Control Nurse, Full Time - DAYS

Responsible for coordinating and implementing Quality Assurance initiatives and Infection Control programs. Adheres to established regulatory policies and procedures including, but not limited to, OSHA, DC, and other federal and state guidelines. Maintains and educates staff on Center’s policies and procedures. Plans, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the facility education program for nursing assistants in compliance with federal state and location regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Infection Control

  • Reviews and manages the resident vaccination effort. Ensures newly admitted residents are up to date per regulation on vaccinations/boosters. Ensures long term care residents are up to date per regulation on vaccination/booster. 
  • Reviews and manages the employee vaccination effort. Ensures staff receive assistance with vaccinations and boosters as applicable per regulation
  • Oversees and participates in the screening process for staff, residents and visitors.  Monitors compliance and works with department managers to ensure employees are screening in as appropriate. 
  • Oversees and manages the COVID testing requirements and processes.  Tracks resident and staff testing.  Works with department managers to ensure employees are compliant. 
  • Contact tracing for COVID-19 positive staff and residents. 
  • Completes required Health department forms and submits within time frames for compliance.
  • Keeps up with current COVID regulations and ensures that the COVID binders are up to date and applicable. 
  • Obtains credentialing in the NHSN reporting system and then reports required information within the required time frames. 
  • Infection Preventionist completion of required certification.
  • Keep an up to date resident/employee vaccination tracking log. 
  • Complete daily checklist which is turned into the Director of Nursing
  • Provides and assists with all forms of education in regards to Infection Control, COVID-19 and antibiotic steward ship. 
  • Enforces center policies with authority to issue progressive counseling as needed
  • Participates in training programs and assists in orientation of new staff
  • Tracks and trends center infections utilizing policy and procedures related to infection control
  • Prepares reports related to infection control and submits reports to Director of Nursing monthly or as directed
  • Assists in the development, revision and implementation of all infection control programs
  • Interfaces with Pharmacy and laboratory to trend infections and reduce incident rates
  • Participates with clinical at Risk Committee and acts as a resource regarding residential clinical management
  • Performs chart audits, under direction of Director of Nursing to assure regulatory compliance
  • Attends Quality Assurance Meeting, maintains QA reports for facility
  • Examines Quality Indicators monthly and develops action plan to address flagged areas, with or as designated by ADON/DON
  • Works with Director of Nursing on monthly A/I reports and develops preventatives action plans related to falls and injuries
  • Attends all clinical meetings, Safety, QA and staff meetings as directed
  • Participates and handles all on-call responsibilities as requested
  • Initiates and audits infection control process
  • Complies with laws and regulations applicable to position and acts in accordance with center’s code of conduct and acceptable standards of practice
  • Treats all residents, visitors and staff with courtesy
  • Performs physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting
  • Works overtime, holidays and weekend hours as scheduled
  • Follows center dress and hygiene policies.
  • Knows and follows facility rules
  • Demonstrates proper use of equipment and reports equipment needs or repairs
  • Follows facility smoking policies
  • Reports and documents any incidents of residents, staff or visitors to the appropriate facility personnel
  • Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment to Director of Nursing
  • Performs duties, which may include transportation of resident, as assigned in facility disaster plan
  • Uses required protective equipment
  • Follows infection control


Position Requirements
  • Possess a current license to practice in Kentucky as an RN
  • Ability to manage and supervise
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Previous experience in QA and/or Infection Control preferred
  • Must have CPR training
  • 1 to 3 years’ supervisor experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Meets all health requirements as required by law
  • Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other facility staff
