Position Summary: The Aide assists the Child Care Teachers. She supervises and ensures the safety and well-being of the children at all times. The Aide may assume temporary responsibilities of the Child Care Teacher in her absence.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists in implementing weekly lesson plans developed by the Child Care Teacher.
  • Provides nurturing and comfort to children.
  • Feeds and diapers infants and toddlers.
  • Ensures cleanliness, proper arrangement, organization and stimulation in indoor/outdoor learning environments.
  • Assists in the writing of daily reports to parents detailing sleeping, eating and diapering activities for the day.
  • Assists in inventory of child development and educational materials and reports to the Director when supplies are low.
  • Assists in the sorting, storage and distribution of children’s donations.
  • Participates in relationship-based practice and reflective supervision.
  • Attends and participates in weekly staff meeting and trainings appropriate to this position.
  • Enroll in the Maryland State Child Care Credentialing Program, complete 12 hours of continuing education a year following the state guidelines and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.

Experience/Requirements: 

  • Must be 18 years old or older. 
  • Completion of the 9-hour Communications training required by the State, preferred. 
  • Knowledgeable about the impact of intimate partner violence and trauma on child development and behavior and on children’s families.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to respond quickly to children who may be in danger of getting hurt, in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
