Job Summary

The Head of Events will be responsible for the leadership and oversight in developing the strategy, execution, and measurement for the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. This position will lead the development of new and compelling events to improve guest experience and align with the Pirates North Star of being a premier sports and entertainment destination.

In this role, you will oversee the creation of meaningful and impactful experiences that garner press and brand awareness, deepen fan avidity, foster strong partner relations, and meaningfully impact our community. The Head of Events must be able to demonstrate team leadership while employing a collaborative and results-oriented approach to lead and drive the production of high-quality events that advance our brand and drive revenue.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  1. Oversee the execution of internal and external events, including but not limited to; Pirates events, external events, pre- and post-game events and experiences, theme nights, partnership events, group sales events and employee events (i.e., concerts, Piratefest, partner activations, etc.).
  2. Leads the development of concepts and formats for events that engage our fans, increase brand awareness, and grow revenue.
  3. Provides expertise to the broader organization in the planning and execution of events and experiences.
  4. Provides event management leadership and oversight to the broader events team.
  5. Negotiates with venues and vendors to secure rates that enhance budgets.
  6. Manages vendors prior to and during the event to ensure flawless efficiency.
  7. Develops budgets and oversees financial reporting.
  8. Oversees the post-event coordination including but not limited to debrief meetings, financial reporting, etc.
  9. Informs and updates the organization and other involved parties throughout the event cycle.
  10. Collaborate production companies and personnel, graphic/set designers, and event vendors including venues, hotels, caterers, rental and production companies, security firms, labor unions, and municipalities with the ability to negotiate/coordinate all relevant contracts.
  11. Manage events budgets and accounting procedures while working responsibly with finance, reconciling in a timely manner.
  12. Manages event staff and volunteers before and on the day of the event.
  13. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of professional event management and marketing experience in highly visible entertainment/corporate environment.
  3. Available and willing to work extended/flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary

Desired:

  1. Experience producing live events, such as festivals, conferences, panels, meetings, concerts, award shows, etc.
