Job Title:Process Engineer

Department:Manufacturing

FLSA Status:Exempt

Salary Range:Commensurate with education and experience, beginning at $80,000/year

SUMMARY

Responsible for development and maintenance of DCS/PLC process controls, instrumentation selection and calibration, and drive process automation initiatives, including future AI/IoT/IIoT efforts. Designs equipment and develops processes for manufacturing chemicals and related products. Conducts tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering, and scientific personnel. Supports implementation, and coordination of product assurance program to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products. Also implements and make changes to SOP's.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Conducts research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes.

Designs, plans layout, and supports activities in constructing, controlling, and improving equipment to carry out chemical processes on commercial scale.

Analyzes operating procedures and equipment and machinery functions to reduce processing time and cost, while improving product or environmental quality of manufacturing plant.

Designs equipment to control movement, storage, and packaging of solids, liquids, and gases.

Designs and plans measurement and control systems for chemical plant based on data collected in laboratory experiments.

Analyses most effective arrangement of unit operations exercising judgement to compromise between process requirements, economic evaluation, operator effectiveness, and physical and health hazards.

Supports activities of workers who operate and control such equipment as condensers, absorption and evaporation towers, pumps, stills, valves, tanks, boilers, compressors, grinders, pipelines, and centrifuges to effect required chemical or physical change.

Performs tests and takes measurements throughout stages of production to determine degree of control over variables such as temperature, density, specific gravity, granulation, pressure, etc...

Applies principles of chemical engineering to solve safety, health and environmental problems.

Recommends data collection methods to be employed in manufacturing.

Identifies and analyzes sources of pollution to determine their effects.

Collects and synthesizes data derived from pollution emission measurements, atmospheric monitoring, meteorological and mineralogical information, and soil or water samples.

Prepares graphs, charts, and statistical models from synthesized data.

Analyzes data to assess pollution problems, establish standards, and develop approaches for control of pollution.

Conducts chemical and physical laboratory and field tests according to prescribed standards to determine characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials and substances.

Collects samples of gases from stacks, and collects other air samples and meteorological data to assist in evaluation of atmospheric pollutants.

Collects water samples from semi-processed or processed water, industrial waste water, or water from other sources to assess pollution problem.

Collects soil, silt, or mud to determine chemical composition and nature of pollutants.

Prepares sample for testing, records data, and prepares summaries and charts for review.

Sets monitoring equipment to provide flow of information.

Operates, and performs routine maintenance on gas and fluid flow systems, chemical reaction systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation.

Operates fixed or mobile monitoring or data collection station.

Conducts bacteriological or other tests related to environmental or pollution control activities.

Conducts research on manufactured products to develop and improve products.

Conducts research into composition, structure, properties, relationships, and reactions of materials.

Prepares standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests.

Analyzes, evaluates, and presents information concerning factors such as production capabilities, manufacturing problems, economic trends, and design and development of new products for consideration by other members of management team.

Develops initial and subsequent modifications of environmental assurance program to delineate areas of responsibility, personnel requirements, and operational procedures within program.

Assists with environmental assurance program meetings with manufacturing teams to establish, delineate, and review program organizational policies, to coordinate functions and operations between departments, and to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives.

Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.

Confers with other engineers about quality and environmental assurance of new products designed and manufactured products on market to rectify problems.

Directs programs for analysis and testing of substances to verify composition of manufactured products, and natural resources such as air, soil, and water.

Coordinates analysis activities according to applicable government regulations, manufacturing processes, or other considerations, and approves modification of formulas, standards, specifications, and processes.

Reviews testing, control, and other operational reports to ensure that quality and environmental standards, efficiency, and schedules are met.

Develops new analytical procedures for new and existing products.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering required, 3-5 years of DCS control and instrumentation experience preferred.

Ability to effectively present information to manufacturing team and top management.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to speak fluent English.

The ability to concentrate for extended periods.

Must be able to travel 5% of time, including domestic and/or international air travel.

Ability to obtain a valid passport.

Possess a current drivers license.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Power point, Project a plus but not required

Working knowledge of Auto Cad a plus but not required

Position Requirements
