ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

As Controller, you are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of accounting functions including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting, and the month-end general ledger close. Provide leadership and supervision of the accounting staff, to ensure accurate and timely completion of routine accounting duties and preparation of financial reports. Responsible for the preparation of consolidated financial reports, funder reports, the 990 and payroll tax returns. Oversee financial analysis to YWCA departments as needed. Maintain/update the accounting policies and procedures manual. Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with approved policies and external requirements and identify opportunities for improved controls, efficiencies and/or effectiveness. Recruit, hire, train and coach direct reports. Coordinate year-end audit and annual budget process.

 

Staff Development

  • Recruit, hire, orient, train and coach direct reports.
  • Establish performance standards and facilitate staff development learning opportunities.
  • Maintain intra-department cross-training.

 

Accounting Management

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for Senior Leadership, Board, Finance Committee and Investment Committee.
  • Prepare/review periodic reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
  • Coordinate the year-end audit and the preparation of the Form 990.
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual consolidated budget. Assist departments as necessary to prepare their budgets. Assist CFO/COO with the review and analysis of departmental budgets.
  • Prepare reports to funding agencies as required.

Health & Wellness Accounting

  • Provide oversight and ensure that daily and monthly reconciliations, billing and collections, financial and statistical reports are completed, timely and accurate.
  • Ensure consistent and timely responses are made to membership-related complaints, inquiries and special requests.
  • Review membership deferral and receivable accounts and inventory reconciliations on a quarterly basis.

Early Childhood Education Accounting

  • Supervise the billing and collection process.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA program requirements are maintained.
  • Prepare analysis on utilization and collections, and assist program managers and Dept. heads to maximize earned revenue.

Accounts Payable

  • Oversee the accounts payable process.
  • Work with program staff to improve efficiency and effectiveness of purchasing processes.
  • Review the issuance of 1099s.

Policies, Procedures and Administration

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and ensures all functions and processes are adequately documented.
  • Reinforce financial controls and ensure practices are consistently followed to assure annual unqualified audit and Single Audits, as well as compliance with donor requirements.

Relationship Management:

  • Work closely with Organizational Advancement, department supervisors and the granting/contribution process to ensure accurate and timely financial and program outcome information is provided to funding agencies and that the accounting for restricted contributions/grants is accurate.
  • Educate and coach YWCA staff in the use of financial information to manage programs, departments and funding.

 

 
Position Requirements

What You Will Bring

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. CPA or MBA preferred.

Experience

  • Four years of successful supervisory experience.
  • Four years experience in financial management and reporting
  • Not-for-profit and for-profit experience preferred

Other required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High proficiency with computerized accounting systems and computer software
  • Strong PC computer skills including spreadsheets, query and word processing
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and process improvement skills
  • Strong teambuilding, coaching and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse styles, cultures and perspectives.
  • Strong ability to productively resolve conflict
  • Excellent organization skills
