Description

Summary

Produce high quality steering components and assemblies by operating a variety of manufacturing equipment, following all safety and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate several types of equipment such as CNC Milling Machines, Vails, Rotary Tables, Lathes, Broaches, Drillers, Welders, Slot Mills and Assemblers.
  • Understand the purpose of each machine operation and what critical product features each machine produces. Understand the criticality of the machine operator role and take ownership of the quality of the work.
  • Perform start up and shut down of machine operations independently. Monitor machines for proper look and functionality.
  • Follow standard work procedures.
  • Perform preventative maintenance/process parameter tasks as identified ion the PM checklist documents.
  • Learn and follow all Company Policies (Workplace, Safety, Environmental and Quality).
  • Read, learn and follow work instruction procedures for each operation. Read pan-checks/followers and operating procedures and document part names, lot numbers, etc. to ensure part traceability. Ensure all tags are completed for proper product status.
  • Follow 5S lean processes.
  • Document all hourly production and scrap on the line status boards or in PLEX as required.
  • Work with other operators, machine setters and team members to maintain high quality and production throughput in a team focused environment using cellular manufacturing processes.
  • Understand how to make good parts, perform quality checks, and record information in appropriate location using appropriate methods and communication tools to document quality and productivity information.
  • Use measurement tools/gages correctly and identify product that does not meet specification.
  • Identify all products at workstation all the times. Complete Quality tags and labels to identify product, such as rework, scrap, notice, samples, finished goods and hold status.
  • Keep workstation clean and maintain good housekeeping at all times.
  • Look for any changes when something seems wrong or if you are “out of spec”. Notify the machine Setter or Supervisor.
  • Identify quality issues and ask for assistance. Communicate with the machine setter and your Supervisor on a regular basis.
  • Use visual checks, learn and use attribute type gaging and simple measuring instruments (such as micrometers and calipers) to determine product quality. Check the quality of the product at specific times and ensure product is in specification.
  • Ensure measurement tools and gages are used correctly, are not damaged and are in calibration.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

Competencies – Knowledge, skills and characteristics/behaviors

  • Must be able to use computers to input machine and product information regarding productivity and quality requirements.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Mathematical level necessary to competently perform job duties. This includes basic math (such as addition and subtraction).
  • Must be able to work comfortably with machines and to work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to operate and assemble product at a standard rate.
  • Ability to work well and collaborate with others in a team.
  • Must be reliable and responsible.
  • Must be able to adapt to changing schedule and rotate to multiple lines and operations as needed.

Additional Notes

Position requires the ability to life, bend, good hand dexterity, visual inspection and some manual handling not to exceed 35 pounds. Must be able to stand for at least 8 hours.
