We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled individual to provide technical support for meetings and events. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent and one to two years related experience and/or training, or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Title: Audio/Visual Technician (part-time, regular status)
Hours: 24 hours/week
Salary: $18.00 to $20.00 per hour DOE with comprehensive benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life and LTD insurance, FSA, HRA, 403(b) retirement plan, paid holidays, personal business, sick leave and vacation.

Summary
Responsible for setting up, testing, troubleshooting, operating, and taking down of audio/visual (A/V) equipment used throughout ASDM facilities. Provides technical and equipment purchasing support as requested or as needed. Operates audio/visual or sound reproducing equipment to provide or complement educational or public/private programs offered by the Museum by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Receives and prioritizes incoming telephone, voicemail, email and in-person requests for assistance from users.
  • Sets up and installs equipment such as microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards for events and functions such as concerts, meetings, presentations, and conferences.
  • Operates theater lighting, sound and media equipment.
  • Confers with meeting or event organizer to establish cues and directions.
  • Confers with Volunteer Coordinator to schedule coverage for A/V needs outside normal schedule as needed.
  • Provides basic instruction on the operation of A/V equipment to guests, staff or volunteers as necessary.
  • Monitors sound feeds to ensure quality.
  • Ensures equipment is installed according to designated layout.
  • Tests and resolves equipment issues.
  • Diagnoses and corrects media system problems.
  • Mixes sound inputs and feeds.
  • Coordinates audio feeds with video images
  • Sends in equipment for repairs as needed
  • Switches video input sources from one camera to another.
  • Cleans audio and video equipment and stores securely and properly.
  • Ensures the safe transfer and shipment of equipment.
  • Compresses and digitizes audio and video data.
  • Ensures the safe storage and integrity of data.
  • Performs all essential duties on-site. May occasionally assist with program/events located off grounds.
  • Works with computer-controlled lighting systems.
  • Duplicates audio and video data.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment.
  • Creates and maintains checklists, operating manuals and training materials for audio/visual support.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, and Word and Spreadsheets software.

  • Must have skilled knowledge of audio-visual equipment. Must have skilled knowledge of computers and presentation software.
  • Work independently, identifying resources and make independent decisions.

  • Ability to work Thursday through Saturday as a standard workweek.
  • Flexible hours for availability (including evenings and weekends).

  • Valid Arizona Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
