The salary range for this role: $85,000-$150,000 dependent on education, qualifications, and experience. 

 

GSI is currently seeking a Mid-Senior Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist to support our site investigation and remediation team on a wide variety of projects. Our team works for an extensive roster of clients and in numerous settings, including residential and commercial development sites, Brownfields redevelopment properties, active and former industrial facilities, Superfund sites, Department of Defense facilities, ports and airports, and many other sites undergoing environmental characterization, cleanup, or monitoring. This is a full-time position located in our Emeryville, California office. This is a great opportunity for professional development and to advance and grow with our organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform or supervise fieldwork to support environmental characterization, investigation, and remediation projects, including the collection of groundwater, soil, soil vapor, air, stormwater, wastewater, and surface water samples.
  • Conduct field investigations, including environmental site assessments, in accordance with applicable ASTM standards and other industry standard guidelines.
  • Synthesize and evaluate environmental and other technical data using a combination of scientific principles, engineering practices, and statistical and data visualization tools.
  • Monitor or oversee subsurface investigations involving the use of drill rigs or other exploratory equipment and subcontractors.
  • Manage and coordinate with subcontractors and vendors, including obtaining quotes, responding to requests for information, performing quality control, and reviewing and approving invoices.
  • Prepare Site Specific Health and Safety Plans, participate in safety briefings, and document data and activities as prescribed.
  • Support and prepare technical documents, including quality assurance plans, sampling and analysis plans, remedial action work plans, health and safety plans, field reports, regulatory reports, proposals, and cost estimates.
  • Communicate and collaborate with technical experts, project managers, colleagues, and subcontractors to provide real-time information of field conditions, resolve technical problems, and collect representative data, and to manage environmental risk.

 

This position entails travel to job sites and working outside of the office setting some of the time.

Skills/Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology, environmental science, civil/environmental engineering, or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience is required. Professional license or training certification is a plus.
  • Experience with environmental characterization, investigation, and cleanup programs.
  • Experience with chemical analytical data review, analysis, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal technical guidance and regulations in the application of planning, implementing and interpreting results of environmental projects.
  • Excellent organizational, listening, and communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues that may arise during project planning or implementation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently, as well as effectively collaborate with a team to address project and client objectives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with data management, geographic information systems, and project management/scheduling programs is a plus.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification is preferred but not required.
