Parkie the Pelican is the mascot for the Bolingbrook Park District and Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Park. He is here to spread good cheer and happiness wherever he goes. Parkie originates from areas near Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He decided to fly north and find his own “pelican pad” to live in. Pelican Harbor was the perfect location, so he is now a permanent resident of Bolingbrook and the Ambassador of Goodwill for the Bolingbrook Park District.   Parkie’s Description Parkie is made up of four components: the Pelican head, the Pelican body, complete with wings and a bathing suit, the orange leggings, and his webbed Pelican feet. It takes nearly 15 minutes to suit up. Once you are dresses, the personality begins.   Parkie’s Personality Parkie is a rare type of Pelican. He does not speak a word or make the usual Pelican sounds. His walk is a normal walk. He does not waddle, but he may do a little dance now and then. Parkie loves everyone, especially kids. When he visits with people, he is to be nice, pleasant and happy with everyone he comes in contact with. If children come up to him, he is the pat them on the head, back or give friendly hugs. Parkie is a friend to everyone and represents Bolingbrook Park District in the most positive way at all times.   Possible Parkie Appearances Parkie can pop up anywhere. He will be a Park District sponsored events and social gatherings. Everything from the Village Picnic to leisurely strolls through the Annerino Community Center/ Parkie is everywhere. Other appearances include: Summer Concert Series Grand opening events Parades Village events Park District special events Pre-school classes Senior Citizen events Select block parties If giveaways are going to be included with Parkie’s appearance, be fair in the giveaway process. Distribute the merchandise equally and impartially. Make every attempt to give something to everyone and if you run out be friendly and give pats and hugs instead. Parkie’s Partner Parkie never goes anywhere alone. He will always have a partner with him to guide his steps, talk with people, and explain what Parkie is saying. This person needs to enjoy talking with people, enjoy being creative, and most of all enjoy having fun. Some general tips to remember: Speak clearly. Guide Parkie everywhere he goes. Watch out for Parkie (sometimes kids can be wild). Help little kids with Parkie. Assist Parkie with his costume. Wear an appropriate uniform or nice clothing. Represent Bolingbrook Park District in the most positive way.   Parkie the Pelican is a very positive and entertaining representative of the Bolingbrook Park District and Pelican Harbor.
