Description

Job Summary

Recruits and licenses families for the purpose of providing foster homes to care for foster children. Provides a consultative and supportive role for the foster families in meeting the needs of foster children. Promotes skill and knowledge, development of foster parents by providing ongoing training and workshops.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Attend 40 hours of Foster Home Licensing Certification and Complaint training and receive a passing grade on the exit exam within 12 months of hire.
  • Attend 32 hours of PRIDE (foster parent training curriculum) Train the Trainer sessions and receive a passing grade on the exit exam within 12 months of hire.
  • On an annual basis, complete 32 hours of ongoing applicable continuing education.
  • Develop and implement foster care recruitment programs.
  • Follow up foster care inquiries with screening, interview, and evaluations.
  • Complete all initial, renewal, annual, and adjustment licensing requirements in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Develop and/or provide training for foster parents.
  • Maintain current and accurate foster family files and records.
  • Assist in the planning and placing of children in foster family homes.
  • Investigate foster home licensing violations and establish recommendations.
  • Attend required MiSACWIS trainings provided by the state and become proficient in utilizing MiSACWIS as a day-to-day tool in order to document contacts, trainings, and recruitment activities. Input all reports in MiSACWIS in a timely manner to ensure compliance with the current Modified Settlement Agreement.
  • Maintain regular contact with foster parents, as a means of support and providing additional information to foster parents.
  • Participate in 24-hour on-call rotation to answer crisis calls and provide supportive services to foster parents, foster children, and their natural families.
  • Communicate and work cooperatively with the Child Welfare Team and foster families to meet the needs of the foster children.
  • Provide ongoing foster parent recognition.
  • Participate in regular, ongoing weekly supervision; consulting and informing the supervisor of work-related issues.
  • Will participate in any additional, reasonable responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Foster Home Licensing Supervisor.

Hours variable, primarily M-F (8:00am-4:30pm)  
Salary Range $35,000+

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related human service field. The following degrees are acceptable: social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school counseling, counseling psychology, and criminal justice.

Experience: Some clinical or case management experience with children and families preferred.

Registration, licenses, certifications or special training: A valid Michigan Driver License, access to reliable transportation and maintain appropriate insurance.

Physical Demands: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Emotionally able to work with information that may be traumatic in nature, as well as, work with individuals or families in crisis or experiencing trauma.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Work involves talking, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal for extended periods of time.
  • Noise in the work environment is usually moderately quiet but can be very loud at times.
  • Work in an environment with various degrees of discomfort.
  • Driving as needed throughout the day.
