Description

Summary/Objective

The Senior Hardware Engineer is responsible for development of hardware for Elevator Control Systems independently.

Essential functions

  • Design, develop, test and debug elevator system hardware.
  • Design all three electrical engineering aspects of the design - digital (microprocessor), analog and power designs.
  • Design hardware to meet industry code standards to pass EMI, ESD, temperature and humidity (both, storage and operational), and UL/CSA certifications
  • Design for manufacturability, testability, field supportability, reliability
  • Present designs in the internal program meetings.
  • Participate in integration efforts/bug fixes.
  • Participate in estimating efforts for programs.
  • Interface with software design and development.
  • Integrate and validate new product designs.
  • Participate in product architecture design.
  • Support existing products and modify existing features.

Work environment

The work environment includes primarily working indoors in an office space. Occasionally will require travel and work with customers at a customer job site.

Physical demands

Includes prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift and/or move 20 pounds.

Position Requirements

Competencies

  • Fluent in hardware architecture and design – microprocessor/microcontroller based digital design, analog design, and power design.
  • Knowledge in C programming in the embedded microcontroller environment is helpful in debugging hardware design.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols RS232, RS485, CAN Bus and USB.
  • Knowledge of 3-phase AC and power engineering circuits.
  • Proficient in creating BOM, source parts, qualify second source and meet design BOM cost targets.
  • Previous experience working Product Life Cycle from end-to-end; product design, manufacturing, sustaining and end of life.
  • Proven ability to operate tools and equipment safely and effectively
  • Possesses an enthusiastic attitude.
  • Highly motivated and hardworking.
  • Great attention to detail, proactive and conscientious.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Continuous drive for learning, pushing technical limits, and finding new solutions.

Travel required

10% travel required.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the hardware development with the Bachelor of Science degree or 3 years’ experience with a Master of Science degree

Preferred education and experience

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
