Summary: Individuals in the job are responsible for assisting Tropical Financial Credit Union in the achievement of its purpose of guiding members successfully through the financial marketplace. Additionally, this position is an individual contributor to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the Credit Union’s business applications, providing specialized technical or business knowledge to projects. This position is assigned to projects within the Information Technology Department or outwardly to corporate departmental projects and utilizes a variety of new computing architectures (e.g., client/server, Intranet, Web) or business application platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • An individual in this position is required to interact with peer workers in business units and IT personnel and has contact with vendors, industry peers, and professional associations to keep informed of existing and evolving industry standards and technologies.
  • Supports the mission of TFCU by providing excellent service to members (both external and internal) and by maintaining a positive outlook.
  • Participate in the maintenance, architecture, and development of database-driven solutions using Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies.
  • Assist with the management of security for SQL Server databases.
  • Ensure optimization of internal databases.
  • Maintain database documentation and database change management documentation, as required
  • Work with internal departments in planning application enhancements or upgrades.
  • Assist in the maintenance of legacy systems and code with an eye towards strategic improvements of schema and processes.
  • Ensure performance and availability of database systems and resources
  • Monitor SQL backups and maintenance plans. Perform ad hoc restores
  • SQL Server installation, including upgrades, apply patches and service packs
  • Administer security access
  • Assist with testing, diagnosis, and resolution of database issues
  • Work with applications team to identify and remediate access and configuration issues
  • Perform necessary administration of third-party applications connected directly or indirectly to the business application systems.
  • Maintain (add/delete/edit), user profiles in business applications and third-party application systems as needed.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for ongoing and completed projects.
  • Assists in implementing hardware and software to support business applications and related equipment. Assists in I.T. projects as needed.
  • Executes database maintenance where appropriate and makes recommendations to management.
  • Assists in Disaster Preparedness and Recovery plan and implementation.
  • Review, document, and maintain development standards for specified integration technologies.
  • Support production integration processes and interact with technical/process teams.
  • Complete assigned activities by required due dates and within estimated hours.
  • Assists the Help Desk staff with problem resolution and new requests implementation.
  • Analyzes system performance and capabilities. Executes all needed maintenance where appropriate and makes recommendations to management.
  • Research content of future releases or patch upgrades and coordinate new job aides for business areas affected.
  • Assist with business application upgrades and patches.
  • Maintains and manages retention of data based on the data retention policy.
  • Work flexible hours and be available for on-call and after-hours support (7x24 operations).
  • Provides cross-training to I.T. Staff.
  • BSA Compliance: every employee is required to uphold the credit union’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures. Specific functions within TFCU will take into consideration the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity that is relevant to the department.
  • In addition to any other assigned training courses, online BSA and OFAC courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and/or Compliance Departments.

Position Requirements

  • Experience in the financial services industry or in a production/service environment similar to that of the employer is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be able to learn and understand the technical environment and applications quickly and keep up to date on new methodologies, related to Integration.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in an organized and timely fashion.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Able to handle potentially challenging situations under pressure.
  • Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to work well on cross-functional project teams and foster team commitment to tasks
  • Ability to use change-control processes through the integration of business processes and system changes
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office applications
  • Proven track record in technical problem resolution and systems integration desired
  • Possess general knowledge or exposure to relational databases and database management systems (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, etc.)

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or related discipline, or 3 years equivalent work experience and technical training, preferred.
  • 2+ years of front or back office experience at a Financial Institution maintaining business application system preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as a database administrator in an SQL Server environment
  • Thorough knowledge of SQL and 2 years of database development/programming experience.
  • Working knowledge with Microsoft SQL Server 2014, 2016, 2019 versions are required.
  • Experience with monitoring and diagnostic tools
  • General experience and know-how for troubleshooting potential database-related issues are required.
  • Maintain database documentation and database change management documentation, as required
  • Project Management Experience preferred
