Description

The Team Leader, Production reports and works directly with the Supervisor and is responsible for leading hourly associates while achieving quality and production objectives with an emphasis on promoting an environment which fosters continuous improvement, collaboration, problem solving and high performance. This position is responsible for managing associate performance, driving positive change, ensuring results are timely and satisfying customer needs. The Team Leader, Production is responsible for the administration of company policies and procedures, including safety and good housekeeping.

Reports to Supervisor, Operations. Indirect Reports include Machine Operators, Setters, Materials Handlers, and other Manufacturing Associates.

Responsibilities

  • Know and follow SOP's, Dimensional Control Plan's, Process controls and reaction plans. Provide leadership for team compliance with plans and procedures.
  • Must understand and comply with our internal layered audit system.
  • Manage tools, machines and parts to meet production goals.
  • Lead team to maintain machines and work areas in clean and orderly condition.
  • Coordinate with Production control on schedules and execute production planning.
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) reviews, analysis and tracking within cells.
  • Monitor Work in Process (WIP) within Cells.
  • Manage recovery plans
  • Daily/Weekly communication to Associates (Schedules, new/changes to procedures, policies, coaching/development, etc.)
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Operational Excellence through fostering and promoting an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Train employees on the following and certify/document on quality and customer requirement (this list is not exhaustive):
    • PLEX (traceability) and reinforcement of behaviors
    • Proper gaging
    • Safety procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring product conforms to quality standards and must do the following (this list is not exhaustive):
    • Work with Engineering and Quality Assurance on machine capabilities studies.
    • Maintain SPC records/checklists as specified. Maintain process documentation relating to quality and productivity.
    • Complete Daily Quality and Layered Quality Audits
    • Identify and record quality Issues (NCR's and CAPA's)
  • Lead or actively participate with Supervisor in problem solving initiatives (root cause analysis, 5S, Kaizen events or other lean manufacturing events). Ensure that employees are reinforcing 5S (housekeeping) behaviors and analyzing and classifying scrap daily, by shift.
  • Train and develop hourly manufacturing employees; including but not limited to on the job training, cross training coverage, safe work habits and good housekeeping.
  • Analyze and classify scrap daily by shift
  • Ensure a safe working environment free of hazards by doing the following (this list is not exhaustive): being aware of safety regulations, taking responsibility for the associates' safety on each set up, investigating, recording and preparing safety incident reports, eliminating and reinforcing safety behaviors, reporting unsafe conditions and policing PPE.
  • Manage and maintain Inventory accuracy between cells, review and approve documentation (WIP).
  • Execute Production Planning
  • Work with Supervisor to eliminate roadblocks to meet demand (capacity increase, demand variation)
  • Manage recovery plans
  • Ensure PM Schedules are complete
  • Ensure that employees perform machine changeover
  • Ensure that employees are performing corrective maintenance. Ensure that machine repair is expedited, prioritized, coordinated and managed with maintenance and engineering.
  • Ensure that employees are repairing and troubleshooting equipment
  • Ensure employees are managing cycle counting
  • Cover Supervisor during absences (vacation, travel, etc.)
  • Complete time and attendance sheets and distribute to payroll when Supervisor is out.

Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous setter experience (min. 1 year)
  • Minimum one to three years manufacturing knowledge.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Problem solving ability.
  • Understanding of quality and process control systems (understanding of DCP, SPC, etc.)
  • In-depth machine knowledge preferred.
  • Product knowledge preferred.
  • Communication skills.
  • Diagnostic and troubleshooting skills preferred.

Additional Notes

  • Position requires the ability to lift, bend, good hand dexterity, visual inspection and some manual handling not to exceed 35 pounds.
