SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Fine & Performing Arts the Artist Mentor is responsible for the supervision of adults and students with intellectual and developmental disabilities that participate in the Fine and Performing Arts program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Mentor and teach general art techniques to promote independent artistic creativity and oversee the daily operations of the program.
  2. Guide, support and train the art curriculum to staff and volunteers within the program.
  3. Implement requirements of Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  4. Facilitate art projects and classes at Opportunity Village and community sites.
  5. Participate in direct care ratio and assist in daily direct care duties (i.e. eating, toileting, daily activities and bus duties).
  6. Guide, support and train the art curriculum to staff and volunteers within the program.
  7. Work with Assistant Director to create awareness, special events and fundraising events to promote and display product sales.
  8. Execute the creation of artwork, commissioned artwork and other special projects.
  9. Represent the program on guest tours and art events as well as promote and perform sales transactions.
  10. Process weekly/monthly program progress reports and program updates.
  11. Order program supplies in line with program annual budget and conduct inventories and maintain up-keep of all program equipment.
  12. Attend weekly staff and one-on-one meetings.
  13. Provide weekly/monthly program up-dates, monthly newsletter articles and quarterly participant progress reports.
  14. Create product tags, artist biographies and other program materials.
  15. Create and prepare the mediums (i.e. stretches the canvas), frames, installs/displays and verifies sale prices for finished products.
  16. Comply and understand all Federal, State and OSHA laws, policies and procedures.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position supervises the Fine & Performing Arts Activities Supervisor.

 

 

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to facilitate activities related to fine arts, music and/or recreational and life enrichment activities.
  •  Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  •  Ability to care, respond and work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  •  Must possess social discernment to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Must encompass professional demeanor.
  • Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
  •  Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative.
  • Ability to teach in a class room 80% of the day and to plan programs 20% of the day.

ADDITONAL EXPERIENCE

  • All candidates must provide a portfolio or links to work for review.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required:  High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: One (1) year verifiable work experience as a Fine Art Teacher.
  • Required: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification is required or the ability to supply certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.
  • Required: Drivers License and a clean three (3) year driving record along with an insured vehicle.
