Summary
Casey Trees seeks a multimedia storyteller to amplify our mission to restore, enhance, and protect DC’s tree canopy. The Multimedia Communications Associate produces journalistic content (in writing, photo, and video) to promote Casey Trees’ community-focused programs and initiatives. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, creative, and entrepreneurial who can chase stories to capture captivating content for our constituents. The Multimedia Communications Associate’s ultimate goal is to elevate Casey Trees’ brand equity by attracting and strengthening a community of supporters, advocates, volunteers, and donors through inspiring and educational storytelling.
Essential Functions
Writing
- Compiles, schedules, and executes the Monthly Editorial Calendar, reviewed by the Marketing Manager and program directors.
- Writes and edits stories and content for the Casey Trees weekly newsletter, The Leaflet, and other platforms;
- Collaborates organizationally, with partner organizations, and industry leaders to identify programmatic goals and promotional topics that appeal to the Casey Trees audience
- Commits to inclusive, diverse storytelling that challenges stereotypes and breaks the mold in the world of urban forestry
- Writes and edits web copy and other materials as needed
Social Media / Photo & Video
- Produces photo and video content for all Casey Trees digital and print platforms (social media, website, The Leaflet e-newsletter, etc.)
- Identifies and fulfills photography needs of events, stories, articles, etc. and handles post-production editing, standardizing, output, etc.
- Curates visual materials on an ongoing basis and on-demand to illustrate Casey Trees’ community impact and enrich any content with a wide range of creative, technical, and documentary imagery.
- Monitors the latest digital trends among industry leaders and creates timely, topical, and culturally sensitive content.
- Crafts innovative/advantageous partnerships with social media influencers & content creators who can drive diverse engagement, spread positive word of mouth, and increase overall brand reach.
Digital Engagement Analysis
- Prepares weekly engagement reports across all channels for the Marketing Manager’s review, and works to identify key levels of improvement and structure engagement paths
- Tracks and reports social media performance indicators and develops and proposes strategy recommendations accordingly
Communications Support
- Interacts with constituents in real time by answering questions, offering solutions and sparking discussion and providing customer/constituent support on social platforms and general email account, friends@caseytrees.org
- Logs relevant communication and contact information in organization’s Salesforce CRM, as needed
- Represents the organization at community events
- Maintains brand voice, tone and consistency under pressure
Other
- Shows a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and explores creative and respectful ways to highlight in Casey Trees’ communications
- Connects people to trees
- Works with like organizations, sponsors, and partners to promote stories and calls-to-action across a variety of social media platforms
- Finds emerging tactics and innovative ways to bring our content to life that cuts through the clutter in social media
- Consults with regional stakeholders on best practices and acts as the community activism subject matter expert
Supervisory Responsibilities
The incumbent does not have any direct reports.
Working Conditions
The incumbent works primarily in an office setting and must be able to use equipment such as Computers/Printer/Copier/Telephone/Smartphones/Tablets, etc. (not an exclusive list). All CT employees may engage in volunteer tree planting and related activities and events in outdoor environments. The incumbent may at times work outside, in the heat, cold and inclement weather and must have suitable clothing
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to talk, hear, stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand on a stool, etc.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a fulltime, exempt position, averaging 40 hours a week. The incumbent must be able and willing to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when needed.
Travel
Local travel will be required throughout all 8 wards. Some out of the area travel and overnights may be expected.
