About The Center For Policing Equity:

The Center for Policing Equity uses evidence-based approaches to social justice problems and conducts research to create levers for social, cultural, and policy change.

Position Description:

The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) is looking for an experienced leader to serve as the Justice Initiatives Portfolio Strategist. The position reports to the Co-founder/ Senior Vice President of Justice Initiatives (JI), Dr. Tracie Keesee. The JI portfolio consists of programs focused on designing and implementing data-driven interventions including the National Justice Database (NJD) Triage Response Team (TRT), Law Enforcement and Implementation (LEI), and COMPSTAT for Justice (C4J).

The Portfolio Strategist will act as the Senior Vice President’s deputy and right hand. They will serve as a key thought partner on the most critical JI projects, ranging from strategic planning, to leading cross-functional initiatives, organizational design, and change management. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a business management role, with a special focus on executive-level advising and interdepartmental collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic vision setting:

  • Serve as a primary thought partner to the SVP to prioritize organizational opportunities during a high-growth phase
  • Vet which opportunities will yield the greatest organizational ROI
  • Stay abreast of emerging knowledge/trends in policing to uncover new organizational opportunities
  • Leverage the work of JI to inform broader impact by liaising with the Field Engagement portfolio
  • Supporting strategic vision setting across all JI programs (prioritizing strategic vision development of our emerging C4J program)
  • Drive efforts to align JI initiatives with org strategy overall and core function strategies


Supporting the SVP of Justice Initiatives:

  • Ensuring the SVP’s involvement in project or decision-making processes takes place at key times
  • Identify key issues and competitors in the policing space and brief the leadership team
  • Act as the primary liaison for the SVP to execute the JI’s highest priorities
  • Support program leads and program managers in connecting work across the JI’s projects and strategic initiatives
  • Work with JI program leads and assigned project managers to ensure the completion of critical JI projects and identification of current and future needs to accomplish CPE Next initiatives
  • Serving as a deputy to the SVP; attending meetings and speaking engagements on their behalf when necessary


Infrastructure :

  • Provide cross-functional support to optimize JI operations
  • Review, design, and execute on improvements to the JI org structure in consult with HR and other key teams
  • Audit and iterate on processes across the JI portfolio to achieve enhanced efficiency and productivity
  • Work with Talent and Culture and program owners within JI to determine staffing needs and structure for immediate and long-term growth



  • Delegate work appropriately given team members strengths and skillset
  • Clearly articulate expectations of deliverables
  • Provide regular, constructive, actionable feedback to direct reports
  • Advise on developing reports' goals and professional development to align with organizational goals
  • Help reports appreciate and factor for whole-org infrastructure (program design, business systems, management + leadership and culture) in planning and delivery of deliverables
  • Act as conduit of relevant organizational information (up and down and laterally)
  • Manage and escalate employee relations challenges
  • Monitor and track employee performance via weekly check-ins, quarterly check-ins, and biannual reviews
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for the management function and participate in management development in an ongoing way

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum 8 years experience in a similar, high-performance role (e.g., business management, consulting, program management, etc. )
  • Demonstrated ability to both set a vision across an organization as well as execute on it
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate through and communicate complex ideas effectively - verbally, in writing, and presentations
  • Adept at quickly getting up to speed on new areas and a desire to operate outside of comfort zone
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and the desire to bring structure to undefined procedures
  • Advanced decision-making skills; comfortable taking initiative and “managing up” to move tasks forward
  • Strong people and thought leadership; ability to develop, mentor and coach others
  • Strong analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to use data analysis to build actionable insights. Expertise in Excel and Powerpoint (Sheets and Slides) a must
  • Proactive in surfacing problems and finding solutions
  • Passionate about social justice issues and issues of race
  • Experience in a quickly growing start-up or non-profit environment preferred
