Job summary:

Performs duties in support of maintenance of the grounds and gardens surrounding the facility, assuring the beauty and safety of residents, visitors and staff.

Essential duties and responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.

Perform general gardening including pruning, planting, watering, lawn mowing, raking, general clean up, irrigation, and other related duties as assigned.

Frequently uses gasoline/electrical power tools such as drills, mowers and blowers, as well as hand tools including shovels, rakes, hammers, saws, wrenches, pliers and cutters.

Perform all duties in a quiet and orderly manner; bearing in mind at all times the sleep, comfort and satisfaction of all residents.

Use equipment and materials in a safe and acceptable manner, follows established safety procedures, uses appropriate safeguards, and observes common sense rules of safety in all on-the-job activities.

Conduct self in a manner, which reflects credit on Carmel Valley Manor and encourages others to do the same.

Qualifications (Education and/or Experience):

Must possess a High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience, and must know the names of plants.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

 

REASONING SKILLS:  Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

 

Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with others.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; lift; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.

 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals and poison oak.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
