Duration: 12 weeks

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or related discipline, for a paid summer internship.

Goal/Objective:

This project will explore the viability of using a specific set of novel excipients for beneficial effects on formulation characteristics, such as but not limited to viscosity, solubility, chemical and physical stability. The goal of the project is not only to identify viable excipient candidates, but optimize working concentrations, characterize the mechanism of action for each of the excipients, and identify a pathway for use with AZ candidate molecules and programs that could benefit from this technology.

Responsibilities:

The intern will work closely with a mentor to design and execute experiments in a formulation development lab focusing on biologics. Lab techniques and skills will be taught to the intern. The intern will perform screening experiments, keep a detailed and organized lab notebook, analyze data, and present findings to the formulation group. The student will become familiar with protein characterization techniques, viscosity measurements, and drug product/excipient interactions.  The intern must be willing to read extensive literature and background information to understand the challenging nature of the project. The student will present a poster and a final presentation summarizing results at the conclusion of the internship.
