We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven individual to join Yellowhawk as a Public Relations Assistant Intern or Trainee. You will have on the job hands on training by an experienced Public Relations Manager! We are excited to help you become successful on this journey as you prepare for your future. This internship is open to candidates wishing to pursue an internship or trainee program of up to one year.

Scope of a Public Relations Assistant

Public Relations Assistant is responsible in aiding the Public Relations Manager with event coordination, social media organization and general assistance with programming. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with the Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements.

Public Relations Assistant Internship position summary

This internship will help you acquire important skills and provide you with knowledge of various facets of this industry within Public Relations and Communications. As part of the internship you will have the ability and flexibility to attend events as needed for photo opportunities with, or in place of the PR Manager will provide public speaking and communication skills needed for any future position in communications. Managing calendars, media lists, database, documenting media coverage, and tracking social media metrics will increase attention to detail as well as provide the skills for effective data recollection. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, media, and vendors will be vital to the Public Relations path. This intern will be able to work with various departments and programs, increasing their knowledge of a variety of paths Public Relations may lead to.

Ultimately, you will gain broad experience in Public Relations that will allow you the skills necessary to boost you into to any fast paced Public Relations work environment.

Position Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities; Intern Public Relations

  • General administrative duties like proof reading, copying, filing, and overall assistance.
  • Ability to attend events as needed for photo opportunities and in place of PR Manager.
  • Answering phones, responding to emails and inquiries, and performing other administrative tasks.
  • Managing calendars and media lists.
  • Maintaining the PR database, documenting media coverage, and tracking PR metrics.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, media, and vendors.
  • Work well with various departments and programs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Follow established policies, procedures and guidelines in accordance to Yellowhawk’s Mission and Vision.
  • Must be team oriented.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize needs.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team.
  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.
  • Excellent knowledge computer software programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / Equivalent
  • College Degree OR Current enrollment in a post-secondary school with a 2.5 GPA or greater, or willing to enroll in higher education with 90 days.
  • Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) and scheduling applications.
  • Experience with event organization and promotion.
  • Strong skills in the following: communication (both oral and written), organization, writing, and time management.
  • Candidate must have great attention to details and computer competencies.
  • Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurance requirements to operate General Services Administration vehicles.
  • Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires sitting for long periods of time, with frequent walking.
  • Occasional bending, stretching and/or lifting.
  • Occasional exposure to individuals with communicable diseases.
  • May require contact with irate patients.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to adequately perform job duties.
  • Requires occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • May require travel for training or meetings.
