Description

The Bore Locator will oversee a crew of 1-2 people. The Bore Locator will need to travel from jobsite locations, pothole and verify existing utilities along directional bore path and place conduit as needed according to construction plans/drawings for various utility providers.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure locates are correct
  • Assist with JSA’s and constantly being on the lookout for changing conditions
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions
  • Safely operate Directional Boring rigs
  • Competent in operating Ditch Witch and Vermeer Horitzontal directional drills.
  • Demonstrates job skill, procedures, and techniques to crew members.
  • Constantly communicate with crew members
  • Ensure potholes are dug prior to crossing utilities
  • Maintains accuracy in all reporting functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned 

SUCCESS FACTORS: 

  • Experience in drilling in areas with live utilites.
  • Ability to understand utility locates
  • Ability to review and understand construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to detect wearing parts and maintenance
  • Ability to give direction, adapt to change, establish relationships, and assume responsibility for work outcomes 
  • Knowledge of public safety and security issues and regulations

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, like sitting, squatting, standing, walking and driving
  • At times you may be required to work in trenches, manholes, tunnels, closets and crawl spaces.
  • Must endure regular exposure to all weather conditions, including hot, cold, humid, and rainy during all seasons throughout the year
  • Must wear common protective safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats and high visible vest when working on-site

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: 

  • 4+ years of experience in the utilities field 
  • 3+ years of experience operating Directional Boring rigs and  walk over locating 
  • Ability to operate all heavy equipment needed; boring rigs, mini excavators, backhoes, trenches etc. 
  • Class A CDL is required with Tankers Endorsement
  • Dot Med Card Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
