Title: Immunology Intern 

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

Duration: 12 weeks

 

Goal/Objective:

The goal of this position is to explore innate immune signaling pathways in Lupus and other autoimmune diseases, which are key driver of disease progression. The intern will examine the downstream signaling pathways utilizing different innate immune stimulus and inhibition in reporter cell lines and human PBMCs, using immunofluorescence imaging, Western blotting, and RT-PCR to discover how these different signalings converge or differ. This study will be extremely useful in understanding pathophysiology of autoimmune diseases and potentially giving us clues to identifying the next generation of autoimmune targets.

Duties:

 

The intern will perform experiments under supervision and gain valuable knowledge in:

  • Immune cell culture (human immortalized monocytes)
  • Western blotting
  • Immunocytochemistry/Imaging
  • RT-PCR
  • Analyze the obtained data for scientific conclusion and present internally.
 
Position Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • A minimum of three years of undergraduate work toward a B.S., or enrollment in a M.S or PhD program, in Immunology, Cell Biology, Physiology, or related disciplines
  • Immunofluorescence Imaging, cell culture, and PCR skills
  • Effective user of Microsoft Office application suite
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment and learn to use equipment with an emphasis on lab safety
  • Excitement and initiative to gain industry experience and learn new skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment to meet project milestones in a timely fashion
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) to summarize development work, critical conclusions, and relevance to the bigger picture
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship, be able to work onsite in Gaithersburg, MD for the summer, at least 18 years of age, and enrolled in a full-time academic program pursuing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
