School Crossing Guard

Description

This position is part-time specializing in the control of vehicular and pedestrian traffic at school crossings to prevent accidents and protect the safety of school children and other pedestrians. Essential functions include:

  • Directs school children and other pedestrians to cross the street at school crossing guards' signal.
  • Controls vehicular traffic as necessary consistent with the safety of all concerned to assure safe crossing for pedestrians.
  • Reports motorists who fail to comply with provisions of the law governing movement of vehicular traffic at school crossings; may appear in court to testify in cases involving violations of such laws.

 
Position Requirements
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of applicable traffic laws.
  • Ability to stand and patrol areas for moderately long periods, often in adverse weather.
  • Ability to handle situations that might occur with children at crossings.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have ability to understand applicable traffic laws and instill safety in children involved.

Hourly Rate of Pay $12.00 per hour
