Credentialing Specialist

Job Summary

Processes credentialing and recredentialing applications for health care providers. Mails, reviews, and verifies credentialing applications. Sets up and maintains provider information in an online credentialing software system. Tracks license and certification expirations for all providers to ensure timely renewals. Acts as primary backup for Staff Recruiter. Also responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the Human Resources Department. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with the Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements, policies, and relevant laws.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Collects and maintains all necessary documents required for staff and contracted healthcare providers using credentialing software system and paper filing system.
  2. Collect information from the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), the applicant and other relevant sources.
  3. Identify discrepancies in information and conduct follow-up research.
  4. Coordinates with the appropriate Business Office staff to ensure healthcare providers have necessary documents to meet requirements as a billable provider.
  5. Must understand and apply requirements for each provider employed or contracted by Yellowhawk in order to properly document compliance, which includes tracking certifications, licensure and DEA renewals.
  6. Monitors files to ensure completeness and accuracy; reviews all file documentation for compliance with quality standards, accreditation requirements, and all other relevant policies; prepares and provides information to internal and external customers as appropriate.
  7. Collaborate with participating clients, department manager and/or external agencies to facilitate and ensure smooth hand-off during the credentialing process.
  8. Capture primary source documentation in computer databases.
  9. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, procedures, and policies.
  10. Acts as the primary back up for the Staff Recruiter, which includes use of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to advertise positions, review application packets for completeness, perform initial screenings to ensure applicants meet minimum qualifications, and scheduling interviews.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associate degree, preferably in a business related field, i.e., Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resources with at least one (1) year of demonstrated experience relevant to the position

OR

  1. High School diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of successful experience relevant to this position.
  2. Requires THRP, PHR, SPHR certification or must be able to obtain within a year of placement within the position.
  3. Must have the ability to work well under tight deadlines and respond to rapidly changing demands.
  4. Demonstrated ability in the proficient use of computers, including exception working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Must be familiar with hand held devices that interface with Microsoft Outlook.
  5. Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  6. Must possess a valid state driver’s license and meet and maintain insurance requirements to operate General Services Administration vehicles.
  7. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check.
  8. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  9. Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS)
  2. Human Resources experience.
