Senior Naval Architect (Weights/Stability)

We are seeking to hire a Senior Naval Architect (Weights/Stability) to join our team in Washington, DC. Upon award, you will:

  • Provide oversight for junior staff, managing a high-visibility, mission-critical program.
  • Lead engineers in development efforts, coordinate with other functional areas to complete ship design.
  • Prepare studies and evaluate weight and stability of ships including weight reports, loading condition calculations, longitudinal weight distribution, intact/damage stability calculations, and inclining experiments.
Position Requirements

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited institution:
  • 10+ years naval architecture experience. 
  • 6 years’ experience with conducting stability studies, inclining experiments, reporting damage control data, and conducting stability calculations and studies for launching, dry-docking, mooring, or towing situations.
  • Technical supervision.
  • > 1 year federal ship or boat building.
  • Experience with computer applications relating to naval architecture and ship design.
  • Experience with corrosion principles of metals for surface assets and boats.
  • Experience conducting, witnessing, and documenting tests including stability tests, speed, power, maneuvering, and seakeeping trials.
  • Knowledge of USN, USCG, IACS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Experience and Certifications:

  • MS Technical, Engineering or Marine from an ABET Accredited Institution.
  • Experience with Navy, DoD, or USCG shipbuilding programs.
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
  • PE license, PMP, DHS PM Level I, II or III, or DHS systems engineering.

This position is contingent upon and subject to the award of the contract from the government. You will be hired on a contingency basis.

Some TCG customers require individuals providing support to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations. COVID-19 vaccination status may affect employment opportunities.
