We are seeking to hire a Naval Architect (Icebreaking Engineer) SME to join our team in Washington, DC. Upon award, you will:

  • Advise decision-makers and provide support for considerations related to the design, acquisition, recapitalization, and testing of icebreaking-capable ships.
  • Provide expertise regarding vessels operating in Arctic, Polar, and such extreme climate conditions to maximize design considerations including areas such as: hull ice load predictions, structural design, and spec development.
  • Provide assistance with test plan development and execution for icebreaking studies, testing (ice trials), model testing, data capture and reduction, and presentation.
  • Possess industry-recognized expertise in the design, acquisition and testing of icebreaking- capable ships.
  • Be able to provide input and direction for icebreaking studies, testing, model testing, and design.
  • Oversee testing, compile documentation.
  • Knowledge of icebreaking design, hull ice load predictions, and structural design.
 
Position Requirements

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited institution.
  • 10+ years Naval Architecture experience
  • Expertise regarding vessels operating in Arctic, Polar, and such extreme climate conditions to maximize design considerations including areas such as: hull ice load predictions, structural design, and specification development.
  • Expertise in test plan development and execution for icebreaking studies, testing (ice trials), model testing, data capture and reduction, and presentation.
  • Technical supervision
  • > 1 year federal ship or boat building
  • Experience with computer applications relating to naval architecture and ship design.
  • Experience with corrosion principles of metals for surface assets and boats.
  • Experience conducting, witnessing, and documenting tests including stability tests, speed, power, maneuvering, and seakeeping trials.
  • Knowledge of USN, USCG, IACS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Requirements and Certifications:

  • MS Technical, Engineering or Marine ABET Accredited Institution.
  • Experience with Navy, DoD, or USCG shipbuilding programs
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs
  • PE license, PMP, DHS PM Level I, II or III or DHS systems engineering

This position is contingent upon and subject to the award of the contract from the government. You will be hired on a contingency basis.
