Purpose of Division:

The Training Division aims to build the capacity of the community development field through the development and provision of essential tools, learnings and services. Training is comprised of five distinct functions: Design, Production, Marketing, Delivery and Evaluation of a broad array of training and leadership programs as well as the sale of NCHEC Publications.

Position Summary:

The Senior Vice President, Training Division is an entrepreneurial leader responsible for the overall strategy, operation and direction of this division that provides services to members of the NeighborWorks America network as well as the broader community development field. In addition to playing an active, hands-on role in building successful, fee-based, mission-driven business models, the SVP is responsible for positioning and sustaining NeighborWorks America as a profitable resource for organizational capacity building. The SVP is accountable for building, growing and sustaining synergies among the Training Division and NeighborWorks America operating units to create cross-divisional alignment. The SVP is also responsible for building a collaborative and responsive relationship with the NeighborWorks network to ensure the division’s offering are responsive, timely and current.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic direction and management oversight for all aspects of the Training Division as a profitable resource for organizational capacity building that achieves business goals, generates budgeted revenues, operates within budgeted expenses, and provides value-added benefits to its customers.
  • Builds on existing enterprises, develops sustainable business and growth models that provide a “one-stop” cadre of services aimed at propelling organizations to a higher level of performance.
  • Leads the strategic outreach, sales and marketing efforts and implementation necessary to promote the Training Division that ultimately expands the number of paying non-network customers, the NeighborWorks brand, and results in deeper penetration in specific markets.
  • Acts as change agent to create a division-wide synergy, infuse an entrepreneurial mindset and high-performance culture that connects the Training Division’s enterprises into an integrated, highly productive division.
  • Develops the strategic direction and operation of an organization wide system for online events (i.e., Virtual Place-based Trainings, Virtual Training Institute, Virtual Symposium, etc.).
  • Collaborates with NeighborWorks’ leadership in a manner that creates and promotes cross-divisional understandings and systems that align with NeighborWorks’ strategic and operational needs, while enabling the growth envisioned within the Training Division.
  • Interacts with NeighborWorks’ Network members and external stakeholders to position the Training Division as a highly valued provider of services to the field.
  • Works closely with NeighborWorks’ Resource Development unit to create fundraising strategies in support of the Division’s work. Also works closely with other colleagues on topics of procurement, branding/communications, IT and programmatic areas.

Nature of Work Contacts:
Executives and staff within NeighborWorks America, the NeighborWorks network and the broader community development field, Board agency representatives, private and public-sector partners, customers, speakers and training faculty. NeighborWorks contractors, vendors and other company representatives.

Fiscal Responsibilities:
Oversees the fiscal activities of the division including budgeting, reporting and audit.

 
Position Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education: Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration or related field required.
(b) Experience: 15 years of experience in leading an organization that has provided fee-based services. Experience at supervising, developing and managing senior and mid-level managers and subject-matter experts. Ten years of direct experience developing, delivering and/or managing adult education and professional training programs, including curriculum development, training design and evaluation, training of trainers, didactic material development and staff development. Proven experience with web-based and online learning. Experience with and/or commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion principles and values in an organizational setting.
(c) Licenses, Certifications: None specified.
(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong business acumen, project management, strategic planning and change management skills. Working knowledge in creating and implementing strategies for sales, marketing and partnership development; substantive experience in developing business and financial models and plans for social enterprises, including a working-knowledge of cost accounting; an awareness of the difference between non-profit social enterprises/fee-for-service programs and for-profit businesses; knowledge of leadership development, training and adult learning (from a management, strategy and best practices perspective); experience building new teams and encouraging collaboration; ability to manage to strategic, performance-based goals; experience solving complex, multi-dimensional operational challenges; capability to build and sustain collegial working relationships with peers; demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

(f) Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and its applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
MBA Preferred. Experience in the non-profit sector and/or association management. Background in professional development, program management, leadership development and/or adult learning.

(a) Travel:
Up to 35%.
