Sintering Operators


Tends Sintering ovens that harden and strengthen green powder metal products from molding by performing the following duties:

  • Follow all ISO 9001/IATF 16949 Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Load green powder metal parts received from molding onto the continuous feed belts at the front of the ovens and unload the parts from the continuous feed belt when they come out at the back of the oven.
  • Load parts into a draw furnace and bake the parts in order to remove moisture.
  • Operate a dry tumbler by loading/unloading parts into the tumbler for a set period of time.
  • Inspect parts for cracks or damages, remove excess powder, and check weight and OAL of parts every thirty minutes before parts are sent through oven.
  • Operate De-Lubber, pusher furnaces, draw furnace, conventional furnaces, Briggs Sorter, and Tumblers in the back of the furnaces and unload.
  • Knowledge of various gage use including; micrometers/calipers, indicators/drop gages, part specific gage, Edmunds Gage, and weigh scale.
  • Must have the ability to maneuver barrels full of powder metal parts onto pallets.
  • Responsibility for knowing and understanding when and how to use conveyors, dipping equipment, and rust preventatives.
  • Notify the foreman or lead-off of unusual conditions, such as: oven belt stoppages, oven belt tears, chimney fires, and excess waxing at furnace end.
  • Must have the ability to keep up with the work assigned and to complete all necessary paperwork according to ISO/TS 16949 Procedures.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. One to two weeks of on the job training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Must be able to communicate with Supervisor and Lead-off effectively.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and bend and reach with hands and arms. The employee regularly is required to step up and down from a wooden platform up to 8 inches in height. The employee is occasionally required to walk and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and when working at the back of the sintering furnaces, occasionally maneuver barrels weighing up to 500 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
