Title: Environmental Specialist Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

Duration: 12 weeks

AstraZeneca is pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity; cardiovascular and metabolic disease; oncology; neuroscience; and infection and vaccines.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering for a paid summer internship. 

Objective/Goal:

Support sites environmental compliance program, which includes evaluating wastewater operations to improve operations and developing a plan for replacing or retrofitting equipment containing refrigerants.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Update inventory of equipment containing refrigerants
  • Determine if equipment can be retrofitted or equipment replacement is required.
  • Submit report on findings and present to key stakeholders
  • Assist with wastewater (water reuse, wastewater permit) and waste (sustainability evaluation) projects
 
Position Requirements

 

  • Understanding of engineering systems and calculations
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of stakeholders
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • A minimum of 1 year of undergraduate work toward a B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or related field
  • Good documentation, writing, and presentation skills required
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship, be able to work onsite in Gaithersburg, MD for the summer, at least 18 years of age, and enrolled in a full-time academic program pursuing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
